LSEQ theory
 

My SoundStream Class A6.0 has a LSEQ which in a nut shell, cuts off frequencies at a certain level and you can get boost at any frequency you set it on between 30 and 60Hz. It's primary purpose is that a ported box delivers certain frequencies above a certain level (in Hz) and can't produce below a certain level. If a frequency below the tuned box is sent to it, it can cause a woofer to move much like a woofer in a "free air" design which can result in unwanted damage and energy wasted trying to reproduce a signal that it is uncapable of reproducing. You can get as much as a 3dB boost using the feature. The manual goes on to say it is esp. good for custom tailoring ported boxes and "various other applications" (i.e bandpass). My dumb question is whether it works for a sealed box as well?

The reason I ask is that I had it adjusted and got a nice boost at one time when the previous subs' rubber butyl surrounds separated from the woofer. I previously had SPL12's <soundstream> which could take a serious beating and still take more. I don't know if this was a contributing factor or the age of the subs (I hadn't had them hooked up in over a year on top of that).

I have since replaced them with Elemental Designs and have it set, but not too much of a boost so that the same thing would happen to the new subs.
