lowering road noise
 

hi everyone, I'm thinking of trying to reduce the road noise on my protege this summer and am wondering if anyone has done the same. I've noticed that most of the road noise from my car seems to come from the rear wheels, especially when driving in the rain. I was thinking of getting something to spray or stick on to the wheel wheels, kind of like the mazda6. I would then move to the inside where i would cover all wheel wells and the floor with something. Just wondering if anyone has tried these and what their results were

I used a spray sound deadening (available at autozone or the such) on the inside of my doors. Layed Dynomat Extreme over the doors. Remove the factory vynil thats allready there and get rid up the black silicone on the plasic ( just cut the edge off) and on the doors.use a light spray tack on the metal. (3M makes a good tack, don't use spray glue) then lay the Dynomat, Fatmat, whatever your gonna use over the door. I fyou wanna impove the sound from you stereo too while doing this by XTC forms for the speakers in the door. You'll have to shorten them a bit ( not hard to do, curl up the inside and use a heavy staple) cause your window will hit them. After that remove body pannels over the wheel well and aply dynomat to those also. If the vehicle is a P5 take the spare tire out and do the whole floor of the hatch. ( This is a must if your gonna do aftermarket ehaust, my MazdaSpeed exhuast drove me nuts before I did this.)

After this work you'r car will sound like a tomb. If you have extra D-mat do your trunk lid or hatch on a P5. Extremly important if your gonna do a sound system.
