kenwood upgrade speakers are they any good?
 

i have a 2003 protege es and i was gonna upgrade my speakers to the kenwoods offered by my mazda dealership. I want to get them but i was wondering if anyone has them or has been in somebodys car who does? and if so do they have a better sound then the stock six speaker system.

If you want the Kenwoods, fine - but please don't buy from the dealer.

You can find them on the internet (or even in local stores) for MUCH cheaper. And you do NOT need that specific model that Mazda sells in order to have them fit.

You've got 6x9's in your rear deck, and 5x7/6x8s in the front doors. I would suggest going out and auditioning some speakers - you might find something you like better for far cheaper.

Just know that: 1) You should NOT audition speakers hooked up to an amplifier. Make sure they are powered by a head unit only, because that is your listening environment in your car. And; 2) Do NOT get wrapped up in how loud the speakers get, because the stock stereo doesn't put out a lot of power. Instead, concentrate on how the speakers sound at moderate volume levels. Buying speakers with a high sensitivity rating (90 dB or better) will get you decent volume with the stock deck powering them - anything lower than that will be a little starved for watts by the stock deck.
