kenwood competition sub?

i saw it at the local shop this week. they are a 11" and a 13" model. it looks like a normal tornado sub on top but everything else is an EXACT repucila of the jbl GTI sub. powerhandleing 1600 watts, but it doesn't say rms or peak.

http://www.kenwoodusa.com/product/pr...productId=2535 magnet is only 110 oz. it also sells for 800 bucks.

sorry no pics. any ideas on this besides it it way over priced.

i'm just wondering why they are all taking the design of the jbl gti sub?? i guess it just looks cool or something. i'd actually consider buying one if it were like 150 bucks just to try it. kenwood also had a sub similiar to the way ed is making their subs with the flat cone design. sad thing is for under 150 bucks i can get a k series sub with higher xmax and the same magnet size :)

Sensitivity: 79dB?? I don't think I've EVER seen a rating that low.

That sub is horribly inefficient, and it'll take gobs of power just to get it moving at all.

Sounds like a POS to me. I've never liked Kenwood subs anyway - this gives me one more reason.

the higher power rating the sub usually the lower sensitivity is, but 79 is pretty stinkin crappy. just wondering how it would sound. owelll

I wonder what Kenwood was thinking when they put out a $800 sub. There are a lot of Kenwood dealerships around the area, but none carry that particular model because it would just sit in the demo room or in the stock room and collect dust. Better yet, it would be used as a paper weight <kind of like my subs before chunking them>. As far as the "Tornado", just another design to make people's interest spike and want to check out the tornadic activity that the sub puts out. Kenwood head units were always great values packed with features and extra gadgets, but I prefer other head units. Not to down Kenwood, they do make good stuff, but for high end, I don't see many people winning competitions using Kenwood products. At the dealership I worked at, the Pioneer rep came in as well as the Kenwood rep. Pioneer had a nice Cadillac STS while Kenwood had the Z28 Camaro flashy car with Kenwood graphics on the side. It drew a lot of attention from people, but sitting in each car, the less expensive Pioneer products blew away Kenwood in the sound quality category. And I am not a huge Pioneer fan neither.
