Jvc Sh707

Does anyone have this? I bought it a couple of weeks ago for a good price, while I had the chance. I have to get it installed though.. haven't done that yet.

I was looking at the 909 too, but I got a discount on the 707, so that's why I got that one. As for the volume, I'm really not too sure, but I'm hoping to have it installed in early January, so I'll answer once I can test it out...

Smurfoo-rah December-25th-2002 05:10 PM

I don't have the harness yet, or the pocket (is that what replaces the extra din left in the dash?) or the other thing you mentioned.. so I can't have it in tonight. Plus, I'm at work until 9pm, and back at work tomorrow. (thanks though) Is it really that easy to install? This is the first car I've owned.. but I'm not a doofus... when it comes to tools and stuff, I have common sense, and can follow instructions. I thought it had to be installed very carefully or something, also by a certified dealer/service center, as not to void warranty? I don't know... I could be wrong.

Smurfoo-rah December-25th-2002 05:12 PM

Oh yeah, the price of the deck was $318 before taxes... regular price in the store was $449 before taxes. (Employee discount, before my friend quit... it was a rush decision on a deck...). The installation I can get done for around $30... but I wouldn't miind learning how to do it myself... =)

Smurfoo-rah December-25th-2002 06:05 PM

No, $30 would not be including the additional parts I would need... but it sounds cool. Thanks to you, I might attempt it myself, when I get the additional parts!

So, you have 2 15's in the trunk? I was thinking of putting in 2 12's, or maybe even 1-12, cause the trunk is not the biggest, and I don't fold down the seats everyday... I think the most I would go is 2-12's though..

How do the 2 15's sound? What type of speakers are they? I will be using 2 Kenwood amps that I have at home.. until I can upgrade them later, quite a ways down the road.

to answer your question blue.... The faster you turn that bitch, the faster it turns up..... so its not like the others... my friend has had two (first one got stolen, and the recent one the Faceplate was lost.... so the unit its self is for sale with out a faceplate... its teh top of the line digifine if you want it)

Thanks for the pics! Now I know how my deck will look when I put it in...

I'm in the Toronto area, does anyone know where I can get the car stereo kit for my car, that has the pocket? And is that the only car stereo kit avail. for the P5?

Evil Homer MP5 December-27th-2002 01:40 PM

I got my radio pocket and wiring harness at The Cockpit in mississauga.

Its located on dundas just after winston Chruchill.

Evil Homer MP5 December-28th-2002 12:14 PM

I wouldn't recommend Phantom, they hacked up my stok harness with a universal wiring harness, then i went to The Cockpit to get a dash kit installed, then the guy comes out and tell's me that the place the did my radio install cut up the stock wiring and did a half assed job taping it up.

The cockpit also install the proper wiring harness which just plugs into the stock one.

I don't recommond phantom for protege's.
any other car, be my guest.

I won't get anything installed there any more, i'd just go there to buy anything i need if thye have what i'm looking for.

JVC head units.

How difficult was the installation?

I'm looking at JVC head units (on Crutchfield), but they're all noted as requiring removal of the rear support bracket in my 99 Pro LX (which I'd prefer not to do, as it's welded in).

Evil Homer MP5 January-2nd-2003 04:10 PM

I have no idea, it was done by a local shop.

mazdafun January-3rd-2003 07:13 AM

I meant dealing with the rear support bracket.

Removing and installing an ISO-DIN system is easy.

But Crutchfield recommends cutting out the rear support bracket in my Protege when installing the head units I'm interested in (I don't like the controls on the Kenwoods, and Pioneers lack a front-panel AUX IN port). They list 6.25in as the max recommended installation depth.

Did you have to cut away the rear support bracket when installing your aftermarket system? It's welded into place, and I don't relish the thought of making a bunch of metal dust in there while cutting it out if I don't have to.

I just picked the SH707 off of ebay for $185 USD. God bless end of year clearances. I have my Scosche pocket and harness burning a hole in my hand right now, so I am pumped to get my stereo soon. What I want to know is, can I just use some coat hangars to pop out the stock deck? I read that somewhere and can't remember where. Damn it is a handsome deck.
