jspec bumper will be here soon
derrick just emailed me to let me know the bumper is in and that he'll charge my card when i tell him to (thursday/friday) and ship it out..... now because of the two other big things i'm buying i doubt i can afford to paint it right off... should i just try and find a place to put a whole bumper in my room until i can have it painted? or should i just go ahead and put it on and just wait a month or so to paint it? just curious what some thoughts where...
and any advice on getting it painted? |
ohh .. well it depends on your personal opinion .. My bumper as you well know needs to be painted over, as does the spoiler. I am going to sand down the bumper soon and primer it .. I may throw the factory bumper back on for the fun of it . but I want to really put the entire car in the shop once the motor is on ...
--Anyway-- I guess , why not go ahead and put it on ... looking at a primered bumper may push you to strive on getting it painted... see what happens Bruce |

yeah i'll probably just put it on.... i still wonder if there is anyway to make it fit over the reinforcement... it would be nice if i could... does the jspec rear bumper have a reinforcement? the pics of jspec cars i've seen look like they have the same rear as ours... why would they have a rear reinforcement but no front reinforcement?
bruce what kind of fog lights do you have? i'm tryin to find a nice pair.. i'm guessing since you have to braket them in sideways its best to get round lights so it won't affect the pattern |

uhhh.. where the heck did I get them again ..
I think it was carparts.com or one of those places.. I don't use them anymore .. one of them cracked .. I have NEVER had a set of fog lights on my Protege and 1 of the bulbs didn't crack... The 323 on the other hand .. needs a big ass 5" round driving light right on the bumper as I can't see shit with them shitty lights it has ... I see like a little past the bumper ... --------------------- I won't be using fogs anymore in the Protege once the intercooler pipes are run.. |
don't put it on! they will want it off to paint it, if you want it painted right! And they will charge you if they have to take it off.
I'm a bodyman, at a local shop. Besides that, I think it looks stupid when people put them on unpainted! |

my insurance will automatically total it out no matter the extent of damage? that makes a lot of sense

Just trying to help. And when the shop that is fixing the damage sees that it was removed before the impact, who knows what your insurance company will tell you. They might blame you and not give you shit. What do I know. |

The bumper is mounted at different points than the reinforcement - points that aren't meant to absorb an impact. You're talking about removing the inner fiberglass, right? Like this one: http://home.rochester.rr.com/rx7gsls...e/DSCN2699.JPG I don't think that would be a wise idea. An insurance company would have a strong (and valid) argument against you if you had damage possibly resulting from that not being in place. If that's not what you're talking about then nevermind :p
