Install question?
 

Ok, currently I'm running a JVC KD-SX980 Headunit and using the internal amp to run Kenwood 6.5" 2 ways up front and Pioneer 6.5" 3 ways in the rear. I have a sub tube that I want to add to the mix. Now, how do I go about hooking up the tube so it only gets the lows and my 6.5" speakers front and rear only get the mids/highs? Do I want to stop the lows from going to the front and rears? Do I need crossovers? Do I need crossovers for every speaker? Can this be done without adding more wire into the mix? Any help would be greatly appreciated....thanks...

first, we'd need to know,

A) is the sub tube a self powered unit?
B) if so, does it have a built in low-pass crossover?
C) If not, you'll need an amp to power the sub tube, so be sure to get one with a low-pass crossover (most these days have them) the front/rear speaker configuration will remain untouched.

you'll need 8guage power cable from the battery, 8guage ground cable, inline waterproof fuse holder (60amp fuse) 18guage wire for the remote turn-on, RCA signal cables, 12guage speaker wire and assorted connectors.

Not familiar with the JVC model you have, but if you have the manual, check to see if it has a subwoofer pre-out (RCAs on the back of the deck) if so, chances are the JVC has a low-pass crossover setting built in as well.

hey kore what type of sub tube are you looking at cause i got the bazooka one......all they did for mine is run some RCAs from my kenwood unit's pre outs directly to the sub

It's an older tube, 8" woofer in size. It just has speaker terminals on it, so I'm guessing it doesn't have a crossover or amp built in. Which means I'll need a low band crossover to make sure only lows go to the sub? As for the deck, as far as I can tell, it only have 2 pre-outs, front and rear, I think? There is no subwoofer out. Any more info would be greatly appreciated...like, where each of the wires go, how/where to run them, where to mount the amp, etc.? I'm going out to pick up an amp in the next day or two, so I'll probably be attempting the install this weekend. One more thing...should I pick up an amp for the front and rear speakers as well? 2 2 channel amps....1 4 channel amp...and what should the power output be? My Kenwoods are 140 watt and the Pioneer TSA1661 6.5" 3 ways are 160 watt. Now, I'm going by the Pioneer website for RMS...meaning the Pioneer speakers are 35 watts nominal (is that the same as RMS?) and I'm guessing the Kenwoods are close to that number? My deck is 19 watts RMS per channel...am I under powering the speakers? Let me know...thanks...
