Inputs to Modular HU??

First, off I did search before I asked! All I found were threads like this that ended with no solution.

Has anyone come up with a way to add an aux input jack to the modular head unit? I'd like to install a jack into the blank lower plate, and switch over to that input by hitting the MD/TAPE button.

Like some other unfortunate souls, I'd like to be able to run a portable MP3 player in without having to buy the tape deck and use a tape adapter.

Thanks,

I dont know to much about electronics ,but i think it could be done . You would have to find the inputs connection from the tape deck and wire a plug into that . You probably will have to do some sort of impedence matching network .

I am trying to do the same thing, and I was going to try to wing it... I am wondering though, how do u get to the wires to begin with? How many panels do i need to take off? I never had a new enough car before that it wasnt blatently obvious...

Thre is a company that makes this exact form of adapter. THey make factory-aftermarket cdchanger modules as well. However, I've yet to see them list our cars. WHen I've got more time on my hands I'll look into it further.

I went to a stereo store, and they said it was not possible to do with the mazda 3 headunit the way it is setup, but they are putting an fm modulator in the space behind my dash where the tape player would be. They also said that these have poor reputations because the signals from the cars antenna interfere with the signal. To deal with this they are installing a switch that shuts off the antenna. The end result will be a stereo plug running out of my dash, with a switch under the steering wheel out of sight. It only cost about $80 with supplies and labor...
