Infinity Kappas are in!!!
 

I installed my new Infinity Kappa 5x7s today (572.5CF), still using the stock HU. Man--these speakers are great! Even with the little power the stocker provides, they sound great.

Installation wasn't too bad, although I really had no idea what I was doing (lots of runs inside to search the board here) and it was a bit of a headscratcher where to mount the crossover (ended up using Velcro to the inside of the door panel where there's a gap in the curvature).

Since I was being really careful, the first speaker (driver's door) took me 2 hours to install. Passenger door? 20 minutes start to finish (including removing and replacing the door panel).

I also recycled the rain guards from the stock speakers--they just peel right off and it looked like a good idea to keep them if at all possible.

I used bullet-nose (I think they're called) connecters--where you insert the two wire ends and then crimp it all down. I then wrapped it all in electrical tape--we'll see how it holds up!

The sound is great. I actually think the factory sub does add some substance to the music and I'm pretty darn happy overall with the improvement.

Got a great deal on the speakers, too--SoundDomain (an authorized Infinity reseller, btw) did a 105% pricematch for me to ikesound--so I got these awesome speakers (around $170 MSRP) for $83 plus shipping for the pair. And, I'm guaranteed brand new, U.S. market speakers and get the full, three-year factory warranty. Very nice.

Cool beans. I am putting some 6 1/2's in this weekend. I hope to start it tomorrow and finish it up Sunday. I have plans tomorrow and possibly tomorrow night, so it may be Sunday until I am done. Are you running factory spkrs. for rear fill? I am still undecided on getting some 6x9's in the rear of my sedan and running them off of deck power. As for now, I am sticking with what I got. The new S-series Alpine looks nice, but I haven't heard them. I have heard good things of Infinity Reference series for my type of application (low power to them).

Yes, factories for rear fill. With those speakers firing right into the sides of the seats, I didn't see much point in upgrading the rears. I actually think the rears for fill and the factory sub don't sound bad at all.

The Kappas, of course, are the star attraction! :)
