I destroyed my paint this weekend...

I went to my friends cottage this weekend and it is a fairly long drive, about 5 hours. After getting there I noticed alot of bugs and such on the car and decided I would wash the car. When I started into it I noticed I had little specks of rust from road salt, and a bit of road tar on the lower parts of the car. I couldn't get it off with a regualr sponge, so my friend grabed me one of those sponges with the thin plastic scrubber material on the other side of it. He neglected to tell me that it was the sponge he uses to clean his wheels with, so it had all kinds of wheel cleaning residue in it. I scrubbed all of the little specks off of the car and all of the bugs off of the front of the car using soapy water. When it started to dry I noticed dull spots all over the car! Upon closer inspection each spot I had scrubbed removed all of the clear coat, and severly scratched the remainder of the paint. God damn I am pissed at myself! I have had this car for almost two years with out ever getting the tiniest scratch on it, and then I go and use somebody else's cleaning stuff and I destroy my paint! So I have decided to get the entire car repainted since I have a DG Lip, and AutoExe grill that I was going to get painted before this happened, painted too. I have found two colours I really like. Please give me your opinions on them, sorry I cannot link to pictures of the colours but they can be seen at Steel Blue Metallic and Graphite Pearl Metallic.

Thanx, Mark

why not just repaing the front fenders, hood, nose, your new lip and grill the same color the car is now ?? a GOOD paint shop could match the paint up perfectly....even if its the slightest bit faded.

If I had to choose one...Graphite Pearl Metallic.

But I would rather like to have a color like this one:

Sir Nuke, actually the marks are on the front of the hood, front clip, fenders, lower parts of all of the doors, rear quarter panels and rear hatch. The only spot not affected is the roof. I think I would much rather have the entire car re-painted, sills, jams, and under the hood. Try and make it unnoticable that it has been repainted.

enderFound... AH!!! , I think I will have to pass on that color, there is already one electric tennis ball car driving around in my town, I don't wish to be the second one...LOL. I would rather a more neutral, sedate colour.

I agree with sir nuke, why not just fix the spots. Unless you've always been wanting to spend the money on a new paint job.
Just had a friend come over, color blend the spots. Unfortunately the clear coat is the hard part. You can see lines if not done right, so you have to break on joints and lights, chrome, side strips all have to come off. Putting it back and wet sanding with 2000 grit took forever.
Neighbor is a paint/body guy so only charged $100 to shoot it all. 3 coats of color, 2 coats of clear. paint cost me 196

oh I see...guess I didn't understand that from your first post.....

the ONLY thing about getting it painted a different color....well....its awful hard to have it TOTALLY painted so that no one will ever know unless you totally strip out the car....remove the fenders....everything so that new fresh paint can be shot EVERYWHERE...even in the trunk.....but you can accomplish this look if you repaint the ENTIRE car the same color. Just a suggestion.

otherwise...if you are looking for a TURE QUALITY paint job of the entire car.....get prepared to turn loose of about $3000 to $5000 buckeroos.

I have also been considering repainting my car a different color. Maybe something blue, not too sure yet. Is $3000 for a very good paint job? Are there other options, say for around $1000?
