How good are stock speakers?

I've have done a search on this forum and havent found anything. What kind of front and rear stock speakers do the 02 Protege have? Are they 1 way with a twizzler cone? Any pictures of the stock speakers would be really appreciated.

I can't answer the question here, but the Title of this thread raised a good question. That is, HOW GOOD are the stock speakers compared to any of the same-size aftermarket?

Said another way, are the stock front speakers of the cheapest qualitity, and pretty much any same-size aftermarket speaker would be better? Or is the improvement gained by (say) a new $80 pair of front speakers noticeable, but not that significant.

I realize this is a highly subjective thing, but interested in hearing responses.

Well, I have the ES with the Stock Pioneer speaker upgrade... They sound incredible

Well personally, I think the stock speakers sound pretty good. The front speakers are very clear with good treble, but lack bass. The rear speakers have awesome bass, but they sound very boomy with no treble. So basically, they even out. I have also managed to get a look at the rear speakers. They are a 1-way design with NO twizzler cone. What do you people think about making your own twizzler cone, and gluing that on? Would that result in a noticeable increase in sound quality(treble) for the rear speakers? I am still curious about what type of speakers are present in the front.

I had pioneer speakers all around stock.
All I can say is anything will be a noticible change. Even a $40 pair.
I used to think that the stock speakers sounded good but after I blew(shreded) them all I had no choice but to upgrade. And it was well worth it.

I should have said in my earlier post that I have a P5 with the rear speakers in the rear doors. I'm guessing that the sedans might have better rear speakers as they have more room to work with on the rear deck and a better location that P5 owners have down at the rear floor.

Yes but hte last of the p5's came the with spare-tire sub which greatly adds to the sound quality in my opinion.
