im pretty sure the only way to get the speakers off is by taking off the rear deck considering the screws are under it

when i replaced my speakers i didnt take the 3rd brake light off thinking i would have enough room with it on, advice: take it off

the rear deck just snaps out, take the plastic clips off the top of it and then there are 2 clips in the back that come off when you pull the rear deck up

if your just fixing the wire on the speaker disregard my first reply, the bottom of the speaker with the terminals on it are accessible from the trunk

Mazdasezoom,

If you want to take to speakers completely out of the back, you are going to have to remove the rear deck. This is quite easy however, all you have to do is pull out the plastic fasteners that push down through the rear deck from the top. I believe there are four of them. You will also have to remove the third brake light, which I believe is held on by two 10 mm bolts. After doing that the carpeted rear deck should lift out, it is kind of awkward though. The metal deck is underneath and contains the speakers that are held in by three screws. From here you can take them out or do whatever you need to do.

From what you said, it sounds like you should be able to just solder the two connections together from the bottom of the speaker inside the trunk. Good luck!
