High Pitched Noise When Accelerates After Installing System
 

Hey,

A few months ago, I recently installed a new system complete w/ speakers, head unit, amps, subwoofers, blah blah ;)

I have a 99 protege, and after installing the system, i began to hear a whizzing noise or a high pitched drill noise(like in the dentist :confused: ) every time I would push on the accelerator while I was driving. The harder I push on the accelerator the louder the noise and the higher the pitch. This was never there before and I asked around and some people said that it could be my alternator working way too hard because the system takes out alot of power from the car.
Is this true??? What can I do to stop this noise?? and it's not coming from the speakers, it's definitely coming from under the hood. It's so loud, I can hear it over my music.
Does anyone have suggestions on how I can get rid of this noise?? Is the draining of power because of the system going to affect my alternator or battery in the long run?? Is it bad for the car if nothing gets done about it?? :dunno:

it's probably just power and ground noise. Add a noise filter (can get them cheap at walmart or something) to your power and ground wires and that should solve it.

You my friend have alternator whine, NOIZE... AKA: the enemy :mad:

did you run the power and RCA cables down opposite sides of the car?

even if so, do they cross at any point?

is the amp ground a good and clean connection? is it as short as possible? you may want to try different ground points.

is the radio ground thru the car harness? If so, you may try running a second ground from the radio body itself.

If not, then try using the car harness ground wire only.

There are two things to remember.
1. Power and RCAs can not Cross over eachother that much.
2. You have to have your ground to where it is touching Bare metal, meaning get your wirebrush drimel tool and make it shine on the metal.
I know all about this stuff, hell i have been installing for 11 years. Also what i mean by crossing over is that you need to run you power down one side of the car and the RCAs down the other, now when you get back to the amp try not to let it cross that much.
Another is you need to check and make sure your ground on your battery is clean and tight, and the crimp of the ground on the back of the head unit is still good.

If that still doesnt work you need to get new RCAs, they go bad easily, also do you have a Line driver on this system?

With checking this stuff you will eliminate the filter that you can buy.

Also is your ground for your amps shorter than 2 foot?:dunno:

agreed on all points...and is pretty much just what i was saying....just that i have posted that same info like 10 times here, i just cut a few corners for simplicity.
