hids from acura
 

Hey I just came back happy from my cousin’s shop, because he hooked me up with real hids but the only problem is that it for the 9006 and I know we have the 9004. But am just wounding if theirs any chance of making them in to my protege...like geting the acura headlight harness and splicing the wires or some thing ... well the lights look like this

Proteges actually use H4s..

because of this your conversion to H.I.D. will be somewhat difficult.

You will have to hack the base of the bulb quite a bit for it to fit and seal into the headlight housing.

Additionally there are no glare shields on H.I.D. 9006 bulbs, and 9000 series bulbs as far as I know sends light in the opposite direction (horizontally instead of vertically I think, the bulb that is), or something like that.

If you'd like to get a high quality pre-made harness made you can contact suvlights.com , look under heavy duty wiring harness and see if they can make you a conversion from 9006 to h4.. or you can make your own. Make sure you use or make a relay kit (where the ballasts get power not from the socket but straight from the battery).. otherwise your sockets will fail prematurely and your kit may flicker.

You know, I'm getting a little bit sick of the "HID conversions". I've seen a few lately, where "true" HID setups are installed in cars that are not equipped for them, and it is illegal, dangerous, and rude. I had one guy behind me, and his lights were so damn bright, and so improperly set up, that I was blinded from behind. He had them on a newer Civic - obviously a DIY, piece-it-together HID job on a car that is NOT equipped to have HID lights - JUST LIKE THE PROTEGE.

By "not equipped", I mean that the headlight housing is not designed for HID lighting, and the reflector is ALL wrong. HID is manufactured to strict tolerances, becuase the light is very intense. If you install HID lighting into a headlight that is not designed for it, all you do is scatter the light, and have it aimed totally wrong when using a reflector made for halogens. You may look "cool", but you are blinding people, and not getting the ture benfits of the HID setup.

Also, all HID systems are required to have a self-leveling and aiming mechanism, so that they DO NOT go out of alignment and blind oncoming drivers and those in front of you through the rear-view mirrors. This is one reason that no car to date with "flip-up" headlights has HID - the self aiming feature has not been streamlined enough yet.

If you install HID lights in a Protege, you are asking for trouble. And if you don't care that you are blinding people and are in violation of the law - well, I don't know what to say. That's insane.

Just get some Sylvania SilverStars and be happy. Otherwise, I really hope that the cops get hold of you and get your car off the road. HID lighting is not a DIY thing, where you just throw a few "bulbs" and harnesses in your car and awe at the pretty light. It's seriously dangerous when not done properly, and in a car that is not designed to have HID, or that does not have a true HID upgrade availble (which generally costs several thousand dollars), it's just dumb, too. And you will not see the benefits that HID lighting provide without a properly set-up system.

I agree with HH on the HID DIY conflict (Although I do think that the NSX R and Zero do have HIDs). The Man must agree as well since he didn't post any thing other than a quote.

I'm talking about cars that we don't get here. The R and Zero do have HIDs. The new fixed ones are HIDs as well.

the sport 20 protege in japan comes with stock HIDS, go get those and replace ur whole headlamp :D
