Help with speaker setup.
i got a simple question for those car audio experts out there.. i just purchased the sony 6.5' X-plod speakers for my front door on my 95' Protege...My issue is that the OEM speakers had some sort of adaptor which connected the negative and positive wires to the speaker....which is all fine and dandy....but my new speakers don't have that type of adaptor....
so my question is...do they sell a separate adaptor for that, if so where can i get it?? ....if not..does that mean imma have to cut down the wire to connect the speakers??? Please..any help will be greatly appreciated... :) |
Most people cut off the connector, unless you plan on putting the original speakers back in at some point - like a leased car.
If you want to keep the connector, I believe you can get adaptors that connect to the factory connector and have bare wires coming out the other end. These get connected to your speaker leads that came with the new speakers. Autosoundgear.com sells these. Not sure if they have an exact match for a 95, but they are a good place to check. |
thnx but....
Thnx for the reply aydu. i guess i will cut the connector because i just can't wait to go look around and see if i can find one....but i just noticed another thing....um...how do i differenciate the Negative wire from the positive one?????
one of the wires is purple and the other one is red and blue....is there any way to tell...cuz i would'nt want to mess the speakers before i even use'em!!!:D |

Re: Re: thnx but....
Originally posted by MisterT I don't know about the '95 Proteges, but when I took the factory speakers out of a 2001, it has the (-) (+) on the back of the speaker just above where the adaptor plugs in. From there you can determine which is your positive wire and negative (if it's the same in the '95).... Mister T :shift: |
hate to be the asshole to the audio freaks in here, but the speaker will still put out sound wired any way you wire it protege95. some say the sound is a little different, this i know nothing of, and haven't experienced it in my car... just wire those puppies up.

reversed wiring is called out of phase. Not all bad but not what was intended either. Many speaker sets use a thin and wide tip to make distinction between positive and negative.
I must say I am not big on out of phase, but at least tie into the same poles on each side of the car. |
all done!
thanks for all the extra info guys....just got my new speakers installed and they sound great! ..just had to drill new holes on the door but no biggie...got a wireless drill from sears and it got the job done!...now i can listen to my tunes without the distortion :bt:
