Help With My Alarm!
 

Just got my Alpine SEC-150R perimiter alarm installed a couple days ago. I love it! I only have one beef. The guy wired it to the parking lamps, instead of the blinkers like the car features stock. I looked at the alarm's wiring, and discovered it's the white wire. I followed it up under the dash, but it just gets lost in a big harness of about 20 wires. (It's spliced into the parking lamps wire.) Is there some way I can re-work it so the blinkers will blink instead of the parking lamps? I'm mechannically inclined, but not so much so with electricity. :rolleyes:

If anyone can provide me with any help, that'd be greatly appreciated.

umm don't the blinkers blink with parking lights too? mine all blink,,

Sorry, I wasn't clear. The parking lamps include the tail lamps, as well as the sidemarkers and front running lamps. The blinkers use the same bulb as the front running lamps, but use the second filament in the bulb. (As a result, it is also brighter.) I'm wondering if I can change it from the parking lamps to the blinkers. This will use the blinkers on front and back, (like the stock remote did when you locked / unlocked the car.) I'm not keen on having the dash lights, etc light up when I unlock the car.

take it back and have them do it for you. If you don't know how to do wiring, you might not want to mess with it.

If you are planning on - or already have - a remote start, I wouldn't do this mod.

Most starters use the brake light circuit to disable the remote starter, I believe. Like mine - if you remote start the car, and get in and push the brake without first putting the key in the ignition and turning it to "run" - the car shuts down. It's a safety feature, but this is how the alarm works.

I don't know if you can just switch out the wires without encountering any trouble - remote start or not.

They all work with with the brake lights.

well i think its a feature that comes with the alarm. Your saying that when you unlock it the dome light comes on right??? Or am i not reading it right. Hold let me look. You have running board lights...damn i need a new car...anyway.

I don't think you have to switch wires. As in take the wire off and hook it to another one. If im not mistaken you would just have to find the one that controls the running board lights and the rest of the stuff and unhook that one.
Ok...let me explain it better...on the stock keyless entry it was hooked up JUST to your blinkers. I believe this one is hooke up to your blinkers AND your dome lights etc.. So either clip the one that goes to your dome lights etc... or just take it back and tell them you don't want it like that...do ya get what im saying??? Hope so, cuz i get what im sayin.:crook:

simply move the parking light connection to the hazzard (blinkers) wire(s) This will acheive what your looking for. You may need to split the wire into 2 and diode isolate for both left and right.

It's a simple fix, but i don't have the 3rd gen info handly right now as to what colors and where. Email me and i'll dig it up for ya.

I just my 150R installed on Saturday, and the dude wired it to my parking lamps as well. I think it's a pretty good setup.

I had a question about the perimeter feature though... what happens when someone comes close to your car?

On my car, I have it setup with the outer perimiter sensitivity at maximum, so when you violate it (about 5 feet back) and don't step away, it'll chirp. Then, I set my interior perimiter sensitivity to about 75%. This actually puts about a foot of it outside the car, so if someone happens to come any closer than a foot to the car, it will automatically enter an alarming state. The impact sensor is all the way up too. I spent about 30 mins one night just tweaking the perimiter settings, and finally got it right. If you need help, rop me an email and I'll send you detailed instructions on how to set it up. :D

I think my installer setup the sensitivity way too low with my alarm. If someone comes close to the car, the blue LED just starts flashing at a more frequent rate and the parking lights will flash after that. How do I get the car to chirp??

Did the installer not give you back your box / manual and setup manual? I got two manuals. One is the "Owner's" and the other is the "Installer's." The installer's (only 4 pages long) has all the info on adjusting the sensitivity, and changing the size of the perimiter areas, etc.

Uh, maybe its me BUT I don't holla' for the cops when i hear a car alarm. I just wish it would stop - or LOL at the dork fumbling with his own stupid set-up.

IMPRESS ME. Make an alarm that auto-calls my cell & tells me the sensor code & activates a listening device to hear if something is amiss. THEN let me trigger a smoke bomb!

Well, in response to that, no one has ANY bizznass around my car. If they want to look up close, 5 feet should be enough. If you wanna come closer than even 3 feet (to key it or whatever) then fucken' rights it's gonna go off! :cool:
