Help me choose a component set

Well I need want a 5.25" component set and I think I've narrowed it down to:

- Phoenix Gold XS130 - $90 on sounddomain
- Orion XTR5.2 - $70 on eBay
- Cadence CWM5KIT - $80 eBay

There's not much of a chance I can listen to any of these before I buy since there are no phoenix, orion or cadence dealers around here!

thanks!

Ummm two words....... MB QUART

hiredgoon April-5th-2002 07:30 AM

I was going to get the MB Quart Premium set for $125 but then the guy backed out, and apparently their lower end line (Discus) isn't all that great. Also they're going for a little more than I want to spend. That and I'm not much of a fan of metal dome tweeters (too zesty for me)
Thanks for the suggestion though

I love boston acoustics components. They are a much higher level of speaker but are much more expensive. The RC520, 5 inch component will run you about $195 on ebay. If you want to go for the gusto, the Pro series will run you about $300 on ebay. These are hardcore competition grade speakers. The quality is not comparable to the cheaper components but they are awfully expensive. I'll probably be getting the RC820 5x7 components. I just don't know which method to mount the set. Kick panels or in the door?
I know this doesn't help your cause but I thought I'd mention it.

Uh yeah my budget pretty much limits me to the sets I stated above otherwise I would go and spend 300-400 on a nice set.

I'm going to be mounting the woofers in the door and aiming them with MDF baffles, and the tweeters at the base of the windsheild in the pillar.

The cadence set seems pretty nice and beefy

I know nothing of those speakers, but 6.5"s will fit in our doors & rear deck with maybe even less trouble than 5.25"s, or at least it would be the same amount of work. Just saying this cause i wish someone told had told me...

i heard from a lot of users that the cadence comps are really sweet. but you may wanna check the mounting depth for the doors. cadence tends to be a bit on the deep side.

mp4life April-6th-2002 01:31 PM

Ya, definately check the mounting depth on all of them, we dont have much room back there at all. 2" i think, i've got 2.5"s in and i cant roll down my window all the way

wil, so you're saying.........cadence? :)
i'd pick those over the other two listed.

Ive got Mb quart componets in my car and they sound terrific.

They are the RSD 216 models, got them for 200$

They have excellent treble due to the large 1 inch titanium tweeters.

Very smooth crossover also, Really brings music to your car.

I believe someone else on this board has mb quarts also, so he knows what im talking about.

I'm hearing Cadence.
I'm going to make MDF baffles to aim them so hopefully mounting depth wont be too much of an issue ;)
