help! factory alarm install

i got the oem perimeter alarm for the 2003 protege ES. its a "plug-n-play" and every connector plugs into an existing connector on the car. that part was pretty straight forward. now the hard part comes:

after youre done w/ the connections, you have to power the system. according to the instructions you do this by:
1. reconnecting the negative terminal on the batt. and close all doors/trunk.
2. you remove the fuse from the alarm harness.
3. you plug in the alarm module.
4. you start the car and put the fuse back into the harness.
5. turn off the car. press unlock on the keyfob if the alarm goes off.

however once i put the fuse in the horn blasts a continuous honk. no short beeps or pattern, just one sustained and everlasting honk. i then try to disable it with the keyfob and it keeps going. next i try the emergency shut off button and it still keeps going. finaly i just pull the fuse out of the alarm and it goes away. with the fuse out: it still locks/unlocks from the keyfob, the parking lights still flicker, and it still beeps when i press lock 2x. i have not yet plugged in the shock sensor because it is optional and it is the last step in the instruction booklet. i've checked all the wiring, you cannot go wrong - each connector is unique and only goes into an existing connector. ive tried to disconnect the battery and repeat the steps to no avail. any help would be appreciated. im debating whether to go with a retail alarm and professional install and return this kit or to bring it to a mazda dealer to troubleshoot. the reason i went with this alarm was to avoid problems like this since its supposed to be "plug-n-play." thanks.
