help with cloudy winshield

Has anybody had a problem with a cloudy looking windshield? I have washed it several times (inside and out) and it still has cloudy patches and streaks in it. I'm wondering if the problem is inside the glass between the layers.

I do use rainx on the outside. Any suggestions?

It's kind of foggy looking, but is not fog. If I park it in the sunlight I can see clouds/streaks. From inside the car, it looks like it's on the outside. From ouside, it looks clean & streak free.

I guess it could be an uneven application of rainx. I still think it might be in between the layers of the glass. If I can't get rid of it before my next oil change, I'll ask the dealer about it.

BTW, what is "goof-off" and where did you buy it?

The "fogging" of the windshield is off-gassing of the plastic dashboard.

The best solution I have learned to keep the windshield interior clean is to use windex and newspapers. Spray windex (or some ammonia solution) on the windshield and wipe dry with a balled up piece of newspaper. Not sure why the combination works the way it does, but it does a good job of cleaning off the haze from the off-gassing.

Windex/amonia is not safe for the tint (inside top strip). I used to use windex & newspaper all the time but the tint installer said that windex leaves a wax film on the window.

Also, cloudy/fogginess does not appear to be on the inside.

Try using bleach or vinager (sp)

Use a dry leather chamois for the inside, works great.

Anything with ammonia in will discolor your tint; those cars you see whose tint has turned purple is because they cleaned it with an ammonia based cleaner.

The tint guy said that tint lasts approximately 5 - 7 years and turns purple when it is about worn out. The bubbling & cracking come after that. Something about gas trying to escape when the tint gets brittle and starts shrinking (I think).

My real question in all this is - is it possible to have a flaw inside the glass that might be responsible for the cloudy appearance?

There is a possiblity of the glass seperating since on the windsheild it is a laminated glass section compressed at really high pressure.

It could have a *leak* but I think you would be able to see it in the glass

My rear window always seems to get "cloudy." I just rubbed it real hard with a nice soft cloth, it sort of buffed out whatever streaks or whatever it was on there off. I just hope it doesn't hurt the rear window defogger. Still seems to work okay though...

"Windex/amonia is not safe for the tint (inside top strip). "
Ours didn't come with that (g******* Cheapo decontenters) Anyway Amonnia can damage tint and can evidently make the the foggy stuff worse. What seems to work the best is invisible glass by stoner or something similar (honestly a product made by ford seems to work the best in my experience) I've heard that newspaper works great but I've never been able to make it work right. Keeping up with it makes the job a lot easier too, wash your inside windows every couple of weeks, if you smoke do it more, and you should be ok. This seems to happen to all new cars, I don't remember it being an issue years ago, but I wasn't as into cars as I am now so who knows.

i bought a aerosol can of 'glass cleaner foam' from ford. the company i work for uses it to clean windshields for antenna installs and it takes everything off. compared to windex its expensive but its still only $10 for a massive can that lasts forever.
