Headunit with "Speaker Saver"

I recently purchased a Kenwood headunit, the installer told me to purchase a "speaker saver" thing to connect it somewhere inside somewhere. He said it is necessary to purchase it, and it is used in every cars that they install. Could you guys tell me the use of this thing? Can I live without it, or what effects will I get without these? They are called "Installedge.com Speaker Saver" on the box.

I have another car with Sony headunit in, but this "speaker saver" thing wasn't installed (installed at private garage), but I am not sure about it, because I cannot turn up the volume too high, else the sound will get mess up... But I have no problem with Kenwood unit. So I want to sort out how this thing works?

Thanks!!!

well I hope you didn't pay much for them....for I believer you got talked into something you REALLY didn't need...

they are passive cross overs.....the ones listed on that site have the following description "398UF, 100V, NON-POLAR 10% CAP 100HZ, @ 4OHM SPEAKER SAVER "

Just buy an amp for those speakers as it has a built in crossover.

Or a external crossover.

Thanks!
It cost $10.00 for two... Guess not that rip-off anyways...
Maybe I'll return it to Best Buy for $$$ on other things...
