Head Unit Question
I have a Pioneer Premier P-830 and 3 days ago, I'm drivin along and the power cuts out and then comes back on. This has been happening non stop, but it's only the radio that cuts out, not all the power. I put my stock deck back in and this does not occur. Any ideas on what it could be?

Does sound just stop or does the units power click off?
Does it do it while playing CDs? |
It'll lose power completely and it happens while listening to my CD Changer, CD player that is built into the unit, the radio, or my XM radio.

How did you connect the Pioneers head units wires to the factory wires?
It sounds like 1 of 3 things: 1. A power wire is shorting out or is loosing contact with its counter part at the connection. 2. The head unit is internally damaged. 3. A pin in the harness adapter may be loose and rides on the verge of connection. |
Would you suggest that I purchase another wire harness for the radio?
|
Since i assume you used a wire harness, I would recheck all the conections first. The wires should be butt connected or soildered and taped. Any unused wire should likewise have a butt connector on it so that it can not short.
If that doesn't work, pull on the wires in the harness a little to see if any come out easily. |
sometimes with aftermarket plugs, the pins are slightly off and when you plug it in they get tweeked and touch one another causing strange problems. This just may be the case...
Or there is a loose or bad connection within the Pioneer's plug itself or even within the unit. |
Thats a good point, I remember trouble shooting some "done by owner" installs and now and again I would find a pin that missed the clip and got bent to hell.

Thanks guys. I'm going to look into all these options later today.
