AT Grill...
 

I have searched and very little info on the AT Grill. What is the story behind this grill? I think it looks sweeet, but how is the installation, price, etc.? Is there a website to learn more about it?

go to home depot, buy yourself some gutter guard, trim it, wire it on, and save yourself $70.00!

ditto......as the at grills are only that....and a total rip off. not to mention...unless they have changed their ways...THEY RUST TOO!

The only problem with making the grills ourselves aside from attatching them so they look nice is some kind of edging around the grills. i've seen the really nice aftermarket ones that have some kind of edging around them and not only do they look really clean but they keep from scratching up the paint bad when installed, any ideas on that?

is it possible to get stainless steel gutter trim from HD? or is it just aluminum stuff? even though SS is more expensive i bet its still cheaper than ones you buy from ebay

Attaching them is easy. You can wire them or make your own brackets. I never saw an aftermarket one, but edging would be nice. I made one for my truck this weekend from the Home Depot stuff, and I did scratch the paint, although only minor, but If I was more careful, I could have avoided that.

What is the edging made out of?

I only saw aluminum. I bought some recently for $1.27 a sheet. Aluminum is easy to work with and cheap.

It would be difficult to cut stainless steel. Are the aftermarket ones made of stainless steel or aluminum?

I guess ATGRILLS werent stainless since they had rusting problems?

The edging could be plastic or metal, just something smoth to go around the edge of the mesh grill so it looks more professional. and like i said it would keep it from scratching the paint. Does anyoen have any ideas on how to make some kind of edging?

you could try getting some very small diameter tygon tubing and using a razor knife splitting ONE side of it...then just working it over the edge and around.....cut it to length, and where the two ends meet, SUPERGLUE it together.

How about using the "door guard" edging? Its even chrome. might look good? I used to wrap it around mud gaurds for a custom look. I imagine it might be a little hard to make tight bends with it though...

both ideas sound pretty good, what is tygon tubing though? is the tubing for plumbing?

Those AT grills suck ass. I bought it. It's made of really thin aluminum(kinda like radiator fins). I ended up taking it off and throwing it away after a week. Get yourself a sheet of stainless mesh, lay the uncut mesh over your removed grill, attach with clear zip ties, then grind the rest off with an 80 grit angle grinder. Doing it this way eliminates warpage that shears cause. Grind the edges off at a 45 degree and your done. After I finished mine, I sprayed them with the same silver metallic as my p5 to give them a suttle look. They look great and the whole deal costs less than the AT grills kit.

its a VERY flexible plastic tubing.....usually you will find it in CLEAR.

TYGON is a brand name...but its what we commonly refer to all flex plastic tubing of that type.....kind of like calling all tissue's KLENEX....you can get that type of tubing at home depot.

where do you get a sheet of stainless mesh?
