got my carbon fiber engine cover in the mail

Just got my carbon fiber engine cover from dgm in the mail 5 minutes ago. will try to install ASAP.

the box includes:
cover
2 brackets (different design)
6 bolts (4 bigger and 2 smaller)
NO instructions.

I don't know if it was an oversight or what but there was no instructions on how to install it. The carbon fiber looks awesome but there is a few white specks/dots/dust that is visible. Also the underside is not sealed in any way (is it supposed to be?) so if you rub it with your hand there is some black material/dust that get left on your fingers.

If you guys want to know anything else, let me know and i'll try to answer your questions.

Post some pics of it from a few angles with the install stuff, maybe you can let us know how the install went and how easy it was and how well it fits.

Does this go over the valve cover?

I'm assuming you need the MP3 / FS-ZE valve cover with the screws already built in. THat's how it looks here anyways:

I will post pics of it later tonight. I allready wrote up a simple how to on the www.protege5.com
And Maxx, you don't need the mp3 valve cover since the dgm one comes with brackets.

Since no instructions came with the cover it took me a while to figure out where to install the brackets. Then I attached the brackets to the cover and this way was able to see where they go. The brackets are different. The more intricate one goes closer to the driver side of the car and the simpler one with uneven arms goes on the passenger side of the engine. The driver side one attaches to the bolts that hold the head down, look at the bolt right under the oil cap and it would be the bolt to the left of that one and the bolt that is in the back of the engine. The back bolt is harder to get to and even harder to tighten back down. Surprisingly though the bolts were barely tightened. one light twist and they were off the head. When you bolt the brackets down, remember that the arms that extend from the brackets (where the clips are) are gonna be looking towards the driver side otherwise the cables would get in the way of the bracket.

The passenger side bracket attaches to the post on the head where a big fat black cable is attached to. This is the cable just left of the timing chain. Lightly pull straight up and the plastics things that hold the cable down will release. Attach the other bracket to the two posts with the two smaller bolts supplied. The longer arm on the bracket is going to be closer to the back of the engine and again the arms must extend right of the bracket (towards the driver side of the car). Bolt everything down and bolt down the cover to the holes in the arms of the brackets. You are done
Hopefully this helps when you guys install yours.

So, if I just got the brackets from thsoe guys, would I be able to install the OEM Mazda cover? I don'tl ike the CF one much, and would prefer the Mazda one... With the brackets, I wouldn't have to buy the whole new assembly, and could just get the plastic cover! :D

yeah, I think you should be able to install the mazda oem one with dgm brackets. dgm unit was modeled after the mazda one, but no guarantees.

ahhh, makes me feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside

RA2OR March-10th-2003 10:27 PM

Dima it looks pretty good. You should take a trip to the scrap yard and see if you can find a mazda wings logo to go in the recessed oval on the cover, it looks about the right shape. just my two cents.

YellowMP5 March-17th-2003 11:54 PM

thanks RA2OR. sorry to busy to check the site everyday now. a friend from the club suggested the same thing but I was just thinking of getting a mazda logo in vinyl and doing the reverse image. so the "M" would be black instead of yellow and all the other areas would be yellow instead of black. like a negative. hope that makes sense. what do you think will look better?

That loks sharp. Where did you buy it and how much was if you don't mind me asking? I want one for my mazdaspeed.
