Gauge LEDS
 

Fellas,

P5 gauges have a red film behind the no.s (I just read that at a post) but is this the same for the green no.s I am seeing on my 1999 1.8L Protege, I mean they seem to show as white no.s on a black gauge when unlit (daytime), and green light on a black gauge when they are lit (night time).

3) The stereo/clock display, buttons, air conditioning etc. all have the same.....that is white letters in the day, but a green light at night, I mean if this is the case can, we chnage the back light in these sections of the car too

I spoke to Mazda and they said there are LEDs behind these. He said VW's had the same setup, BUT WITH Blue LEDS,

HAS ANYONE attempted this type of mod, or knows who specialises in sales/install of this. Pics (protege) would be appreciated.

ive been wanting to do that for a while...im just going to wait until i do the indeglo(?)guages.

I'm very curious to try and change all the LEDs to blue like VW has, I think it would look great. Anyone know the part numbers for the LEDs?

I haven't any advice as to how it can be done, but I'd like to chime in, too! If anyone knows how we might mod our interior lights to be blue like in Jettas I'd totally love to go for that. In my opinion the Jettas have the coolest instument display lighting I've seen...

Carefull guys, red is the best color for night driving. My Mom's Lexus RX300 has a bright blue LED screen (6" by 4" tall) for climate control info, etc, and I always have to dim it right down when driving at night. The blue is just too harsh. If you do all your night driving in the lighted city, it's not so bad, but I live just outside the city here, so at night, the brights go on, the gauges get dimmed all the way down to off, and you're on high alert for deer, moose, porkupine, coyote, etc.

It's been proven that red is the best color for nighttime gauge lighting. Not trying to discourage you, because it would look cool, but just be aware of the side effects.

The red light thing is true...I have to turn the green ones down to a more comfortable level in my 99.

The problem with red is that it also causes people to become more aggessive. That's why school buses and sane assylumns are usually green or light blue because they are calming colours.

I'd hate to see someone trash up there ride because they got all tuned up on the red gauges!

So THAT's why I drive so aggressively at night! ;)

Geez - am I the only one that doesn't like the red gauges at night? I have to turn the brightness on them WAY down because I find them too bright to look at when I glance at them from watching the dark road. I think a dimmed blue would be MUCH easier on the eyes than red... PLUS I just love the VW dash period...

If anyone figures this out - PLEASSSSEEE POST!!!!
