Gauge Cluster

Quick question, will a '99 pro gauge cluster fit into a 2001?

ThePuto Jun 21, 2003 11:44 AM

Bump? :(

Sir Nuke Jun 21, 2003 01:45 PM

no....the harness is different.

ThePuto Jun 21, 2003 03:49 PM

Gracias :)

sir nuke - how sure are you?

reason I ask is because I think it does, though I'm not 100%

ThePuto Jun 21, 2003 07:31 PM

Hmm. :-\

You sure it is different? I thought all 3rd gen Pro's gauge clusters share the same 3 plug harnesses.

the first ones (99's) are a little different in shape....they are not a drop in per say.......

if you are wanting to get an earlier set that has a tach and put them in a car without a tach...the harness is definately different there and is not a direct plug in....its been tried here before and found out not to work.

This is what I am basing my answer on......another member went so far as to remove his guage cluster and was going to try it....I can't remember exactly who it was though.

I thought it was the DX ( no tach) cluster that wouldn't fit. But the cluster with the three conectors are interchangeable from 99-03, even if it's a P5 or MP3. I think :(

The worst part is, is that time is ticking on me purchasing the 99 cluster w/ a tach, and (attempting) to install it. :(

the thing is...EVEN if the guage clusters are the same shape....the wiring you need for the Tach is NOT there in your DX. so even if the guages will fit right in....you will find that there is no plug for the tach...and thus it won't work. you would have to figure out a way to hook it up seperately....it wouldn't be just a "plug and play" sort of install.

I see Puto has a DX. Your right Sir Nuke

couldnt you just buy the Harness from Mazda, then find out where to wire the sender to the tranny to get the tach reading?
