Front side markers don't blink?

What's up with our front turn signals not working. The two side markers in the front don't blink? It this an error on the part of Mazda?

Sidemarkers aren't generally suppose to blink. You can always wire them into your blinker so that when your blinkers go, they go with em ;)

theyre not suppose to blink

if it aint broke, dont fix it!!!!!!!!!!

My dad told me this one (he's an engineer)... Engineer saying: If it ain't broke, it doesn't have enough features yet! (more of a crack at engineers :D )

Does anybody know how to wire up the sidemarkers? The Front turn signals have 3 wires going into them. the sidemarkers only have 2. What can i do?

Thanks

I rewired mine. On the sidemarkers, leave the ground as it is and cut the power line. Insulate the end that comes from the wiring harness. Then, attach a new wire to the end that attaches to the light. Fish the new line up to the turn signal housing area. Then, the darker green wire with the black stripe is the correct wire for the blinker. Carefully splice the new wire into this wire and you're done! Personally I like it better this way. Before, I would get people who were mad at me when I'd turn like I didn't have my signal on. Now, with the sidemarkers blinking too this happens a lot less!

what do you mean by "Insulate" ? Which one is positive on the sides(the green)? after i cut the + die wire do i need to hook it back up to the other part of the green wire or do i just leave it alone?

Thanks

by insulate I mean put some electrical tape over it or a wire nut just to prevent shorts. In automotive electric black is ground. Therefore, of the three wires that go to the turn signal housing, the dark green one is for the flasher, the light green one is for the parking light and the black is ground. And yes, you do need to connect it back to the signal end if you want to have turn signals in the front. I used some crimp style couplings. They are available at radio shack for like $1.50 a dozen. They are a small sleeve with plastic on the outside and some metal on the inside. You stick the wire(s) in them and them squeze them really hard with some vise grips. So on mine, on one end of the sleeve was the dark green wire coming out of the signal housing and on the other end of the sleeve (coupling) were the new wire going to the side marker and the existing wire running to the signal. I hope that made sense. I'll take some pics later, but I'm leaving for AZ in the morning so I won't be able to get them online until next week.

I read a post from someone else who did this, but had to use relays and all sorts of crazy wiring to get it to work. I figured a quick splice-job could do the trick, but he said that fuses kept blowing, etc. etc. - basically a no-go.

Have you had any issues with this mod? I'd love to give it a shot, and your description is reasonably clear - any other tips I should know? Any chance of a few pics to help out? I did the "fog-light" rewiring "mod" (so they can be used with the parking lights only, or the headlights), and there were some pics posted that made it a 5 minute job - they really helped.

One more thing - do the bumper lights also flash when the parking lights are off (like during the day, when the only light would be the flashing turn signal)?

Just a few more details would be really helpful. Thanks.

yes they flash during the day.

I just finished the mod. Its worth the 30 min.

I did the mod yesterday - diggin' it!

At least the marker lights are somewhat functional now.....I'm sure this is safer, but........

Anyone know what the US DOT laws really are? This mod causes you to have no amber light on the side of the car, unless the signls are on - as in, the lights no longer just illuminate, they only flash.

I'm wondering if this is truly legal.....not that I care, I'm just curious.

Thanks for the wiring info, Hawkeye!
