F*** Mazda Factory Parts...

Okay, for Christmas I got a phat Mini Disc recorder/player. And I thought "Yay! I can go get the MD player in my PR5 now..."

Price from dealer = $500+ for the part w/o install

Are they actually serious? I mean I really like the looks of the stock head unit because of the amber interior thing, but I want an MD player now, and there is no way I will pay that for it...

I am also dying to pull my basslink out of my RX-7 and plop it in the hatch...and some RCA outs would be real nice like...

Any advice/options/recommendations from you guys?

yeah fucken dealers. back when i had my neon. and my factory radio went to shit. i went to get it fixed under waranty and asked them how much it would cost to upgrade to the tape and cd player they told me 800 plus my old radio. fuck that. :the finge

of course, you could spend $250-500 on an aftermarket minidisc player that will look like crap when installed into your dash. personally, i think the $500 for the factory player is not that bad. you get factory looks with aftermarket ability. how many other car manufacturers even OFFER a minidisc player.

another option is to go for an indash CD and MD changer (or vise versa)....maybe slightly more but do you really want to give up a CD player? or is this a factory add-on to the factory CD player?

I'm not too up on MD players, but i think Sony and Kenwood have combo systems.

Maybe, i was just thinking. You can get a wired external output on your head unit now...and add a small handheld MD player in your glovebox, ashtray, cubby hole ETC. It will cost you less, and may be easier. adn you can take out the MD player anytime you want, because its just a little wire that plugs into the MD player.

Aske some Audio Places about that?!?!:the finge

Anyone know if it displays the table of contents info on the head unit display? I have tried to contact mazda, but no one seems to know

Anything from the dealer/manufacturer will cost an arm and a leg. You can usually find a better unit in the aftermarket. If you want to keep your stock radio, you can get an FM modulator and connect your minidisc player directly to that. It's not the best sounding, but it will allow you to play your mini discs.

the real question is WHY does it cost you an arm and a leg? why are their prices such a rip off?
