E-Spec Mirrors...

Ok, so I know we Protege owners can opt for the E-spec mirror glass which enhances the viewing area, etc. but living in Canada I often crave heated mirrors in the winter. It's my understanding that either the european mirrors, or the Japanese market ones are available as power folding / heated. Not just the glass, but the whole assembly.

Can anyone help me out here? Do they exist, and can I get them through corksport or te like, or am I just smokin' crack here...

How hard would they be to install? I don't car much for the power folding function, but the heated option I'd kill for. If I do manage to find some, I'm assuming I'll also need the related switches, etc. Is it worth it?

:dunno:

I wouldn't mind a set myself

I wish I had the answer for you. When you do find out, please let me know. I'm moving back to Toronto this month so the heated feature will be nice, say in November!!!

Hey Maxx they do exist.

Here is the post from the other forum:

http://www.protege5.com/vbb225/showt...heated+mirrors

to save some scrolling:

As for the whole E-spec painted mirror assembly, the part numbers are:
BJ4D-69-120C-xx right side
BJ4D-69-180C-xx left side

and if you wanted heated mirrors:
BJ4E-69-120C-xx right side
BJ4E-69-180C-xx left side

the xx number is the same as the code sticker on top of your touch up paint bottle

If anyone else is interested, maybe a group buy is in order?

That would be neat. I didn't see anything about the "power folding" feature though.

Thanks for the numbers Kona. Go to the Edmonton meet?

I did some further checking, and the power folding option is only available on the J-spec Sport 20's.

I've got heated mirrors and the glass can be adjusted electronically. They are stock in European models.

How about the mirror heating switch? I've heavy fogging with the underground parking of my work place whenever it rains :yell: If it is not too much I'll join the group buy. I really want this one!

No problemo. Nope didn't go to Edmonton but should be going to the meet in the mountains. You? As far as I know only the euros are heated. The UK's also have traction control. Nice feature to have if it comes with an on/off switch.

I had to miss out on the Edmonton meet (my car is without a front bumper right now) but I will be going to MITM.

All we need to figure out now is where the switch is located. I'm assuming it shares one with the rear window defogger?

Kona Bear July-20th-2003 09:34 PM

could be. Maybe it could be located in the empty spot where the fog light switch and change holder are?

I did some sniffing around on the Mazda Europe site and it showed a pic of the mirrors themselves, but said nothing about the switch.

:(

In my car the same switch uses mirror heating and rear window heating...So if you use one you have to use the other one too. That ok anyway because when mirrors get foggy the rear window gets also foggy very often (and the other way round).

So, does anyone no who imports the e-spec ashperic (non heated) mirrors? I've emailed a few companies and have heard nothing.

DaleK July-21st-2003 02:59 PM

Nick,

If you decide to get the aspheric glass, I would definitely purchase a set as well. At the very least, we could split shipping. As for the heated mirrors, that would be nice but I would want to see price before I decided.

Dale.

Hey Maxx,

Since your accident took off one of your mirrors, will you being thinking about the heated ones as discussed above?
