Door locks
I know that there have been people talking about where the door locks are located, but has anyone ever done anything about it. Has anyone tried to remove the locks? Can they be removed? Any suggestions will be helpful.

Why do you want to remove the door locks? Locks are good :)

I don't want to remove the lock itself, I just want to remove the annoying knob that sticks up and is in your way when the windows are down. Everyone that gets in my car locks themselves in because they hit it and then it locks.

my brother just took a hack saw to his :p

There's a thread somewhere on a door lock lowering "mod". I can't remember who did it or what the thread was called though, but I know there's one for sure. He also included pics in the thread.

here ya go.....this is the thread that started early this summer and a guy names STOCKER ended up doing a mod.....you can read the whole thing....and his posts with what he did is in there.

I've been thinking about how to get the locks from a 626 to fit into my P5. My father had a 626 (now my brother's) and it has the knobs that sit flush when locked, yet can still be opened by hand. It would require a little modification to the door panel, but nothing too bad (I think)... I just need to see if they came in black as the interior is tan in the one I have seen.

Thanks for all of the input. I have found the thread and I am going to have my husband read them so that he can fix the locks.
Thanks again. :blue: |
All you need to do is remove the door panel, unscrew the plastic lock button from the threaded rod it is on, and use a hacksaw or Dremel (I used a Dremel - much easier than a saw - you could probably use a Dremel cutoff wheel in a drill if need be) and take off about 1/2" or so of the threads on the metal rod. Then screw the button back on, hanging the panel on the door at times to check the height - get it where you like it and button the door back up.
I did mine months ago, and really like not having the damn button poking me in my funny bone anymore. Very simple, and very effective. Also reduces the ability of someone unlocking your doors with a coathanger (including YOU, so be careful). ~HH |
