Do-it-yourself chip repairs, then pro repairs. GOOD or BAD?
I plan on getting all of the chips repaired by a pro in about a year. I have a a couple of scratches down to the white layer (not sure what layer this is) by the passenger front door, and also by the gas cap area. It looks like someone did this with their door. I also have some chips on my hood from road debris. The chips on my hood are down to the black layer (not sure what this is either).
My question is, if i try to repair these myself now, will it be harder for the pro shop to do them later? If I dont do anything to them now, will I regret it later? If someone can explain the colors that I mentioned, that would help with my decision. Since the 3mth I had my P5, something hit the black metal area on my drivers side front door. Over time, this has developed into a rust spot, since its not really a painted surface like the rest of the car. Does anyone have any suggestions what I can do about this spot? Here are some pics. http://members.cox.net/mazdaprotege5...%20-%20(1).jpg http://members.cox.net/mazdaprotege5...%20-%20(2).JPG http://members.cox.net/mazdaprotege5...%20-%20(3).JPG http://members.cox.net/mazdaprotege5...%20-%20(4).JPG http://members.cox.net/mazdaprotege5...%20-%20(5).JPG |

Not sure if this will help you but my bro-in-law swears by it. He has a new Neon SRT-4 and when the dealer screwed in his plates, one of the screws chipped off some paint on his bumper. He bought this thing and now it looks like new. Check it out.

Not so sure how it works but I guess it only affects the new paint since it hasn't had as much time to cure as the original paint.

Originally posted by mnkyboy Wow, sounds interesting. I would like to know how it removes the touch-up paint without damaging the factory paint. |
