Custom Grill
 

Hey does any one who has a G3 sedan have a custom grill ???... ive been lookin for a new one that might look better than the one that comes stock...i would prefer a custom one so i dont have to cut one out my self but ill take what i can get...thanx

I used the wire-mesh and got a nice size mazda emblem and mounted the emblem to the wire. Then I put it in place and it looks so much better than that stock one wiht the ugly silver stripe.

from the grills I have seen for sale on the market....you are better off either making one yourself with the proper materials...or having someone custom make you one.....the AFTERMARKET grills I have seen are junk! and some of them start rusting within a week or two.

Can someone give detailed info on makin a custom grill for the car? I'm handy with tools, i just don't know how to go about doing it or where to get the mesh itself.

Well, there are a few things to do and a few ways of going at it. First, what year is your car. The grill changed from the 2000 to the 2001. If you've got a 00 or 99 I can help you with everything, but if your is later, the best thing I can do is send you in the right direction as far as material and kinda how to do it.

same here. i need help tryin to figure how to replace the whole grill and not jsut layin over a lil peice underneath the sliver stripe.

Removing the grill is easier than it looks. I don't have pics of the removal because it wasn't really a thought by the time we got to removing that piece. The pieces of plastic in the fog holes are a pain in the rear, so I recomend starting there. Lift the front end of the car when you remove those pieces of plastic; this will make it so much easier.

For the grill itself, there are two screws that are easy to see (rather obvious) that need to be removed. After those, there are to plastic push lock things that hold the grill unit into the frame (that metal bar that comes across the front of the car that sits in front of the radiator). Once those are removed, you can pull the grill towards you a bit to allow you to use a really long flat head screw driver to pop out similar plastic push lock things that hold the grill to the bumper. To elaborate, pull the grill towards you and look behind it. You should see 3 points where the grill is attached to the bumper with these plastic things (left, middle, and right). Once you pop those out, the grill just comes right off with no problem. After that, it is up to you to create a grill piece that will fill the "void" persay.

As far as material, there is two was of getting the stuff. First, NEVER buy that crap off of ebay. I haven't, but it's not worth it. One choice you have is to go to a local hardware store (i.e. Home Depot or Lowes) and buy gutter guard. Should be around $1 a piece. 3 will be just enough, 4 or 5 is a good idea, just incase you screw up. The second way to get the stuff is to find a sheet metal shop that supplies sheets of various types of metals. You are looking for "Seperated Metal." You can then decide how thick the material is and how big you want the holes and everything. A place like this shouldn't be too hard to find, but I wouldn't know. Going to the sheet metal shop would be better because you can pick out a more custom size and grade. That and the fact that gutter guard is bent and is kind of a pain in the ass to make flat.

did you glue that metal to the front of the stock grill or somethin?

how did you do that? post a bigger picture of that red 99 (or 2000).

Doesn't matter what material you get. I believe the gutter guard is also stainless steel, but if you go to a metal shop, you can get any type of metal. SS would be the best way to go. That or a really nice aluminum.

i foudn that the gutter grill is dented to easily by rock and debris that hit it while drivng ont eh highway.
