CD player skipping bad

Hope someone can give me an idea.

I read most of threads about skipping CDs a while ago, and now I can't find a particular one.

Here is the problem, the HU has some big issues with CDs (original and burnt), most of the time it will play about 3 or 4 songs and then start skipping like crazy and usually spits the CD out. I've tried different CDs (old and brand new) no difference.

It usually plays the 4 tunes first thing in the morning, but after shuting off the car and going later that day NO LUCK, it pretty much spits it out every time.

If I remeber correctly, someone mentioned something about disconnecting the car battery for a while (positive or negative?) and thus letting the computer and all electronics reset themselves.

Will this work? Did anyone try it? The scrapyard here wants $250 for the mazda HU (... and I really like the oem look, but this seems too steep :(

Sorry for this long post, but I'd like to be able to playb CDs in my car ;)

go aftermarket. For $250 you can get a sweet headunit off of eBay. And $250 isn't steep at all for a factory cd player, but why go factory when you can get a nice pioneer one with MP3 capability for example for around that on eBay. And the look of the factory one isn't even all that nice. Just my opinion though.
