carckin noise from speakers in back
 

hi, i have some pyramid speakers in the back of my protege and every now and then they will crackle. its really annoying, what causes it and how do i fix it?

Normally when you hear that poping and crackling noises from your speakers, it isnt good, and no offence but dont ever by pyramid speakers, if your looking for a good quality clean sound outta your factory size speakers i would recommend Infinity, or Polk. But anyways are they popping when the bass hits? is the crackling in the middle of the highs? just a few questions to answer, if you answer yes to both of these questions, it means 1 thing, get new spekers, and spend some money, cause u get what u pay for. if your lookin for stereo equipment, check ebay, i highly reccomend a seller named "scala1" great dealer, and who i get all my stuff from

What are you using for power? The noise could be blown speakers, a loose connection, or a blown amp.

the speakers are new. i think the pyramids sound fine to me, not cheap. it only crakles when the bass hits or if i turn it up. i was told it could be the wire touchin the chassis of the car making a short inthe speaker

If you only hear it when you turn it up, I'd guess the amplifier in the stock deck is putting out distortion. Most amplifiers contained in the stereo aren't of the greatest quality. To get clean power you might want to go with an external amplifier.

I have the same problem from my rears, havent figured out how to fix it yet, i wiggled the connectors around while the musics playin but i dont hear anything so that cant be it

I had this problem with my OEM speakers on my '93 Protege. Here's what the problem was:

The wires to the speakers were held on with little plastic posts, and one of them got broken off while I was loading stuff into the trunk. That's right, there was no housing on the back of the rear speakers. They just protruded into the trunk space.

With the wires no longer tied down, it left them free to brush against the speaker's backside. That's right, the wires were uninsulated.

My solution was to re-attach the plastic post to its bracket, first with chewing gum and later with epoxy. Neither solution held up in the long run.

if you are using the stock 5 1/4 size speaker they will always make that noise because that size speaker can't handle much base. there is 2 ways to fix this problem. one, go to the car audio store and buy some base blocker. get a 150htz blocker and this should sove that problem. but if you want better sound a base you can have the stock size speaker opening changed from a 5 1/4 to a 6x9. this is what i recommend. i had this done to my car and i put a pair of polk audio 6x9's in there and it sounds good. with the 6x9's before i put my sony explode sub in i had base that i could feel in the seat. and if you run a external amp and bypass the one in the stereo you get even better sound quality.
