Canadian Pro5 front speakers...
 

Well, from what I've read, I was under the impression that the Canadian Pro5's came with 6.5" speakers all around. As I found out this evening, that's not true. I have 5x7's up front...not 6.5". Can any1 give me some advice on fitting the 6.5" speakers into the holes so I don't have to go hunt down a decent (cheap) pair of 5x7 speakers? Any advice would be greatly appreciated...thanks...

Hey Kore..........all you have to do is.............when u buy 6.5" spkrs...they usaully have a template inside the box...or on the box.........use that template on a piece 1/4" MDF.....make the actual template a bit bigger around.......then line up the mouting holes and pre-drill the holes.....Then using the template you will drill into the area around the 5x7 opening to hold it up.........................

A suggestion on some speakers for your car....depending if your into sound quality or price........JL Audio make an exceptional set of spkrs........also Kaption Audio, Alpine Audio, Infinity Audio.........the stuff you get a Future Shop can be good and most of the times is BAD........

Ok, that's sounds cool...where can I buy 1/4" MDF? Once I make the piece and pre-drill, I cut a hole in it for the magnet of the 6.5", right? Then I mount the MDF to the door...then mount the 6.5" speaker to the MDF? That correct? Let me know...thanks...

The speakers I bought, BTW...are Kenwood 6.5" 2-ways 140w Peak...they seem like a nice speaker and the price was decent...

Yup, you're correct. Basically, you just cut it out so that it will fit in the stock location & be big enough so the Kenwood speaker will go in it as well. Kenwood speakers in general are okay, my personal opinion is that their are better for the same price though. You can buy MDF at your local Home Depot although I'm pretty sure they only sell them in big sheets like 4x8 or something. Good luck.

Ok, got the MDF cut and installed with the Kenwood speakers. Sound is ok...but not a whole lot better then it was. That doesn't seem right...any suggestions?

If you're running it off of your stock deck power, my guess is that they're not getting the power they need. Also, make sure there's as little air leaks as possible between the speaker & mdf and mdf & door. You can use some foam weather stipping if there is. My guess is that they're not getting enough power though.

I know this won't apply for you since you already have your speakers but Boston Acoustics made a full range of great 5x7 speakers. IMO, Boston speakers sound superior to any others I've listened to but they also tend to cost quite a bit. Look for reviews on their better models and you will find many people switched to Boston after trying them. They made 4 different 5x7's (RC820, FS80, RX87, FX8)speakers to help all of the Ford owners out there. It just so happens that Mazda also used a 5x7 cutout.

Yea he's right....your running the speakers off the deck. The deck says that it has "45wattsx4"....thats not continious power. So basically they speakers are under powered. Those speakers need power to sound clean....i bet they sound cracky and crispy at high volume......your best bet is to buy a 4 channel amplifier.....this will properly power the speakers...also u will be able to clean up any distortion that is occuring.............I hope this makes things easier.

The size of the speakers isn't the problem........its being under powered.............

JL Audio also makes some 5x7's which sound pretty decent. At least I think so. I don't thing the speakers are a huge issue since he's already fabricated the adapters already. If for nothing else, mounting the speaker onto MDF would be better than onto sheetmetal anyways. What you may want to look for is speakers that are efficient, meaning, sound good with little power. I think Polk's are pretty good for that.

Speakers are not the culprit, headunit is just low quality.
It has enough power-45x4 will be approx 20 wrms-more than enough for coaxials.
You should have started with headunit- amplifiers in aftermarket CD players have much better frequency response, channel separation and S/N ratio and difference will be dramatic even with stock speakers.
BTW, I added Clarion tweeters with Xover-they don't even sound close as they sounded in previous car with Sony CD player.

I highly doubt the stock deck would be putting out close to 20 watts RMS. In fact, you'd be lucky if aftermarket decks put out that much power RMS. Some do, most of them are hovering in the 16-20 watt range. I don't think quality of the sound in this case is as big of an issue as lack of power.
