Can you wire the fog-lights to come on with just the foglight switch?

I want to just run only the foglights.

You're amber park lights will come on though...mine are tinted out...so you can't really see it in this pic.

I am pretty sure you can only rewire them to come on with the corner lights and no headlights.
Anyway, here's one link:

I need to get around to doing this myself.

Matty Mooling September-1st-2005 11:46 AM

i'd love to do this too but i suck when it comes to electrical stuff

JDM-P5 September-1st-2005 11:49 AM

It's easy! You just have to run a splice your park light wire and your fog light wire together....I did it for Jackelope while we were @ the SE Mazda Meet in less than 10 minutes.

Matty Mooling September-1st-2005 12:06 PM

can you still turn the fogs off with the switch or are they always on when you turn the parking lights on?

mattsstang87 September-6th-2005 02:48 PM

Bump!

Jackelope September-6th-2005 03:07 PM

yah, phil hooked it up for me! which reminds me, i never went back and taped the wires up! have to do that tonight!

THAPRO1 September-7th-2005 11:49 AM

another way of doing it if your afraid to splice is open up your fuse box under the hood and run a wire from your fog lights to your parking lights fuse just wrap the wire around one side of the fuse and plug it back in thats how i did mine no splicing or cutting same concept as hooking up a remote wire for an amp

oh god i have 666 posts

ok heres a run down on the way i was talking about
1. open your fuse box thats under the hood, notice the red wire running to the "15" fuse.
http://www.msprotege.com/members/Tha...20to%20002.jpg

2. here's a few pics where you can kinda see what i meant by wrapping the wire around the fuse,
you just need to strip some of the plastic off the wire, then wrap it around the terminal
on the fuse then plug it back in btw you can use the pic from #1 as a reference for which fuse you should use, or there is a grid on the inside of the fuse box cover use the # 15 fuse for the taillights/parking lights.

B. http://www.msprotege.com/members/Tha...20to%20004.jpg

3. heres a shot of them on with only the parking lights
http://www.msprotege.com/members/Tha...20to%20005.jpg

After thinking about it you will have to cut at least one wire like they were saying because i forgot you have OEM fogs whereas mine are aftermarket so you have to extend a wire like they said but if your nervous about tapping into the actual plug and wire for the parking/taillights you can use this way as well let us know how it turns out

JDM_P5 , the first set of pics on how to wire it up to the switch were good except for the fact that they did not point out the required wires in an easy to understand way (circle around wires too big, which ones?). So can you list wich wires to use in text form?

JDM-P5 September-9th-2005 08:05 AM

N/P,
The first pic:
Find that clip w/the RED & Blue wires. Your POWER wire for your PARK LIGHTS is the RED one. Follow that RED wire to where it meets the huge spool of wires secured w/electrical tape. SNIP the RED wire just short of that spool.

Second pic:
Pop the side of the dash out, by slipping your hand below and around towards the door, the side piece just pops off. Now, find the blue clip holding the FOG LIGHT wires. Find the GREEN & WHITE wire. SPLICE that wire.

Third pic:
Now, run an extension from your RED park light wire that should just be hanging (the one that comes from the white clip) to your ready and waiting GREEN wire of you fog light blue clip.

Check to ensure they work....tape everything up and that should be it! You can drive w/your parklights on and no fogs (w/the switch OFF) or you can drive w/the fogs on (w/the switch ON). Good luck!

Thank You!!!!

I hope this works on my American spec P5.

mattsstang87 September-14th-2005 06:48 AM

My wiring colors were a little different, but I got it. Not hard, but I am lazy so I wanted to know what wires to use. The pics helped because of the color difference. Thanks!

BTW, those tiny wires suck!

JDM-P5 September-14th-2005 09:35 AM

Well...I think I know why that occured....before I knew what I was doing I tried another way and had switched around some wires...so I had to have Miller (Anarchistchiken) show me exactly how he did his...lol.

N/P though...post up an after pic!

KrayzieFox September-23rd-2005 11:49 AM

Hey Phil, can you still keep your fogs on even with your brights? I was looking at a how-to on this on msprotege and there's like 4 different ways to do it. So I'd like to follow your instructions if they do so. I pretty much want to be able to have them either on or off with park, low beam, or high beams, so that no matter what position the headlight switch is in I can still turn them on or off with the fog switch. Is that possible with your setup?

JDM-P5 September-23rd-2005 11:53 AM

I never tried to hook them up w/the brights on. I'm guessing it's possible, but you'd probably have to splice the wires to the park/low & high beams.
I have it set up where you can have the fogs w/park lights & fogs w/low beams only.

KrayzieFox September-23rd-2005 12:08 PM

That's good enough I'd say ... it's not like I use my brights very often anyway so to hell with them. I think I'll probably do this when I get out of class today. What did you use for splicing? Did you solder or woud you say using those little plastic scotchlock things works just as good?

BTW: check these out man, this would look bad ass on your car!
http://www.xenonexpert.com/ddekits_protege5.html
You can do your fogs like this too, but you have to replace the whole thing
http://www.carolinaclassictrucks.com...OT-WIHL14.html
Just imagine, halo park lights, low beams, high beams, AND fogs. That'd be pimp. On and the fogs come so you can make the halo either yellow or blue. P-I-M-P I tell ya ...

JDM-P5 September-23rd-2005 12:13 PM

I just cut, stripped, and attcahed. Used some electrical tape to keep it all good. I re-did mine again so that I had no exposed wires under the hood....used zip ties for that.
