Burning MP3's
Anyone know a good way to burn MP3's with the title and track names on them so I can get my Kenwood to display them?

Use Nero or Roxio. Also make sure your burner is compatible with CD text. Ya might have to update your burner ROM, depending on its age. You also have to burn in disc at once mode. Nero is great & free... sorta. You can get the demo for 30 days from their web site and search the engine for ways to contuinue use after the eval period. Roxio is gonna cost ya. Unless you have mad skill on free software.

I've got Nero permanently...it's a good program but it likes to crash...you might have to reboot your PC after you burn the disc

Heres some info with links that I found on a car audio page a little while back.

I have NEVER bought software for ripping MP3s. I use Cronic 1.0 (very simple freeware from ZDNet) to rip - I think it only rips at 128 KB/sec, but that is very good quality, and when ripping my CDs to MP3 there is no discernible quality loss.
For ID3 tags, I've been using Internet Renamer (also free from ZDNet) - this one is awesome - it retrieves the album/genre/track title, (ALL the CD information - even the year) from their website, and tags all the tracks with a couple mouse clicks. Very simple, works perfectly. For burning the discs, I use Just!Burn - it came pre-installed on my Compaq. It's not the best for regular CD burns, but for data (which is all MP3 is, frankly) it works just fine. |

As for 128kb/sec bitrate, 192 is the best to use IMO. As for using Variable bitrate as stated in the link above, I wouldnt do this. |
Originally posted by mnkyboy WTF? What version are you using? Ive NEVER had Nero crash on me, IMO its the best burning software on the market. Some burning software like CDRWIN plays tricks on you like crashing your computer or burning coasters if you use a serial number that is pirated. Not sure if Nero does this. What version of Windows are you running? Reply with this info, I might be able to help :) It's a *ahem* hacked version but I've only had it burn one coaster, and I think it was my fault. Also I am running windows 98 not sure which version |
Originally posted by hiredgoon Version 5.5.3.0 It's a *ahem* hacked version but I've only had it burn one coaster, and I think it was my fault. Also I am running windows 98 not sure which version I got the latest version of Nero, since I have unlimited updates when I purchased my TDK burner. You might want to uninstall Nero, and reinstall to see if that helps. You can also try CDRWIN, which is another good burner program. I hate ROXIO :bonk: |
I use easy cd creator , to burn my cds ,, they get done in like no time

Originally posted by mnkyboy Well, that may be your problem? When you say hacked version, do you mean pirated or actually hacked? Hacked is when there is something physically done to the games installer/exe file. Alot of times this doesnt have to be done, all you need is a valid serial number. |
Now back to my original question...how can you get the title and tracks labeled to be displayed by a deck?

I take it sony Cd extreme doesn't do that? It's the software that came with my burner. I downloaded nero but I don't see where it creates ID3 tags.
|
If you rip complete albums to MP3 - try this from ZDNet: Internet Renamer
Free program, works awesome - tags everything automatically, and the ID3s display perfectly in the car. Give it a try - I use it all the time. |

Or you can edit ID3 tags with your winamp player...that is easy enough....just a thought...since you should have winamp already....
|
Using auto-namers is MUCh easier - sitting and typing in all the titles is a pain in the ass.
|
I'm not ripping CD's though....I'm D/L them and burning them.

I give up. I tired using NERO and nothing. I tired using winamp to ID3 tag all the songs I burnt and nothing. It my be in my deck or something....who knows.
|
What deck do you have? You might have to change display setting to see the ID3s.
I've got a Kenwood MP8017, and the display can be either ID3, track number and track length, or the time of day. You might have to "tell" the deck to display the info. If not, make sure you're editing the ID3 tag - not just the filename or some other info - it's got to be ID3. |
I have the Kenwood Z727 and I'm pretty sure I got the deck seleced right to show the tags ... if they are there in the first place.
|
Dood in Nero right click the songs before U burn and select propreties then advanced, this will allow U to change your tags. What OS are U running aome make it easier than others..
|
My OS is ME. When I right click and select properties theres no advacned tag. I see where I can lable the title and artist and theres already a title. I've tried buning and playing and nothing.
|
Just because there is a label for artist and track or whatever, doesn't mean you are editing the ID3 tag - I don't know much about the software you are using, but with Windows Media, for example, you can name the tracks from a disc, but that doesn't ID3 tag them for MP3 use - it just names the CD tracks.
|
i use EZ CD Creator, it doesn't cause too many problem's for me.
plus i also have a pretty fast CPU and lots of RAM, so it doesn't crap out on me often, plus a good speed burner too. |
Evil Homer MP5, have you tried to ID3 tag you're files and get them to display on a head unit? I've tried about all the programs and I still can't get the display to work. Maybe it's my deck? Or I'm an idoit and can't get it done?:dunce:
|
hmm, i don't have a car deck that play's mp3's....
so i'm sorry i can't help you out there. But i have burned CD's with CD text that word on a friends car deck that has CD text enabled on it. maybe you have to enable it. |
Nero Tutorial
Here is a little tutorial I put together....
1. Open up Nero. Choose "Audio CD" from the Wizard. Make sure that "WRITE CD TEXT ON CD" is checked off. Type in the cd text you desire... http://members.cox.net/monkey8/nero_01.jpg 2. Drag the tracks you want into the track window. Right-click "PROPERTIES" on the desired track. http://members.cox.net/monkey8/nero_02.jpg 3. Type in desired cd text for the track. Repeat steps 2 & 3 for each track. Burn cd. Listen to cd. Enjoy. http://members.cox.net/monkey8/nero_03.jpg |
You're the MAN! I got it working. I had to bang around the menu for awhile on my deck but it's working fine. Thanks.
