Blaupunkt saucer subs?

Has anyone had any experience with Blaupunkt's new line of saucer subs? I've seen them several time in magazines, but they're not listed on their website. They say they come in 10" and 12", but are they any good?

i think dave cameron has a sample pair, but other than that (dealers and such), last i heard blaupunkt is not making any due to lack of a build house for the honeycomb/aluminum saucer shaped cone or something like that...

funny tho, the phase linear aliente doesn't have that problem...but then again the aliente nowhere near the $250/sub like blaupunkt was shooting for.

That's strange, the latest article was in this month's Truckin', and the guy that wrote it said he had used one in his C5 Vette. I guess the article was probably written about a month ago, and things do change.

there have been a few out for the "test" market...
some have auditioned the flat blau's.
in fact, a couple guys put one 12 btwn the cab and bed of a pickup, said it was a very capable driver... :)

not sure if it's available for the mass consumer market tho.

Cool, thanks for the help. I've tried 4 different message boards now, and you're the only response I've gotten on any of them.

i'd like a pair of 12's...
saucer subs would be so cool cause then i could run a sweet stealthy install...
OR, i could put a pair of 10's in the doors!

damn blaupunkt. they need to make the subs...

That's my feeling as well! I want one for the Protege, as we need all the room we can get for trips and stuff, and one for my Ranger cause my wife hates sitting in the back with the setup I've got in there now (my daughter's car seat has to go up front).

very nice sub, with alot of potential with only 4 inches of mounting depth, however, are these going to be a free-air design, or do you actually need the .5 to 1.5 cbft of space to fully make these subs flex?
blaupunkt released a statement on their press release at http://www.gspr.com/blau/bl_home.html about the subs, but had no particular information as to when or where you could expect to be able to buy one. who knows, rumors are rumors, i hope to see and audition these subs some day, look sweet as hell.

why did you have to post this link here?!?
I accidentaly bounced to another site from that thread and I read all about PHASING (I regret this very much).

j/k

I will not listen to my car audio system the same way ever again. Unknowingly, I've been so ignorant about this, that it sickened me and made me feel bad (the phasing issue). If the rest of you (and I assume you, onehawaiian, know about it) don't have any idea about what I am talking about, then go read this and this (quite lenghty, but VERY educating).

and yeah... it is quite sad that the saucers are dead...

well, I am serious as far as acknowledging the fact that my car couldn't be any further from the perfect acoustic environment. on top of that you have interference between the 4 speakers because of un-equal distances between each of the 4 and your ears, hence the ever present danger of speakers being out of phase relevant to your ears. this sucks....

I don't know man. :) This guy made it seem like all car audio sucks. I've always been a serious "audiophille", but I can't afford anything expensive yet. Reading his article instantly "cheapened" my whole setup... :) It's so sad that it's funny...

I'm gonna listen very carefully next time I go in my car.

This string got to a point that I had to check with my friend in R&D at Blaupunkt- yes indeed the saucers are not in production at this time, but he would not list it as totally dead at this time. They apparently have had tons of manufacturing issues and have had the retool of their electronic products as a priority item.
He won't commit to when they might be in general production, but states that is still the intent.
Total production was quite low due to quality control issues. I still have two in the box that I got from Blaupunkt North America. Not for sale, I still have a project planned for them.
