anyone know where i can get a good battery for a stereo system
still running stock alternator

Most folks here I suspect will point you to sprial cell technology, like Optimas. They have pretty good CCA to them. Some will suggest that you get a deep cycle battery, but unless you sit for long periods of time playing music with the motor off, a regular cycle will do just fine, and makes more sense as a regular everyday battery. :cool:
Just about any good, heavy duty battery will do, often in car audio a heavy duty battery is part of the "flash" folks buy into.
How many watts are you pushing, and what is the amperage of the amps?

i have a 600 watt planet audio going to my subs
in my previous car a had a smaller amp and it would fry my alternator
i was just wondering if a bigger battery would stop it from happening this time

that is a tech failure of some sort, its not from a strong enough battery, it was somehting wrong with the car or amp.

At 600 watts, the stock alternator will do fine, not even in the court to change that. In turn the battery should probably do OK, but I have always seen a decent battery as a good investment in any car that I own- stereo or not!:D

I too am curious as to what about the amp would possibly kill alternators so easily, perhaps the amp is possessed?!
Did any one ever check it out for you to see if it had ground faults or something to explain it's homicidal nature towards alternators?

Hey Dave, when you say heavy duty battery, what do you mean by that? I'm interested in this because Optima batteries are hard to come by in my country but I might be able to get a regular "heavy duty" one, like Duncan or some other brand. What makes this batteries different from the regular ones?

Ill be running two amps, PG Tantrum 300.2 and a 600.4 .

you can buy them for less with no shipping at pep boys or VIP

you would still pay tax. if you are anal and want a "sound" battery then thezeb is a good place to get one, but you can get a heavy-duty bat from there for ALOT cheaper, esp "used" ones. the ones that sit on a shelf so long they are considered used b/c you have to charge it when u buy it.

just dump the 300 bucks on a stinger bat and get bragging rights on having the best battery around town!:p

Sorry to not have answered sooner! But Blue got you the right idea! The higher the Cold Crank Amps, in an regular battery (within reason) the better! I also prefer over 800 CCA.
Think of the battery are a small bowl of water that holds power for you. If you amps tug too hard are the current your alternator can provide, then the bowl provides some of the extra flow. Bless thier hearts, car manufactures most of the time give you an acceptable minimum level of battery, it is what I got in my new Mazdaspeed. First damn thing I replaced was the battery!
The alternator will be able to recharge a larger batter within reason just fine. Once in a while just pop a trickle charger on to make it really super happy!
I like Blue try to steer folks away for deep cycle unless thier useage would suggest it. Charging and care of them can be a pain.
SO- a larger capacity standard battery will do just fine!!
By the way, before Sprial cells became the rage for show in competition, interstate ruled the market for audio batterys. They still do in the Db drag world!

when did pep boys start selling optima bat, when i worked there 2 yrs ago, they didn't, or atleast my store didn't....well actually there were alot of things that store didn't do right
