Was wondering if those so called "Anti-Theft Protection" features on head units really work? The most common feature i see is the removeable faceplates. Do you guys actually remove the faceplate and take it with you when you go for dinner or shopping? Or do you just stick the faceplate in the glove compartment? :)

while i have never lost one, if you bring it everywhere you go, leaving it behind is a big possiblity.

Ok, but then does it mean that thieves know that you have the faceplate in the glove box and will try to steal your head unit and other stuff even though you've removed the faceplate? :) Then this is not as effective as it may seem.

I totally agree that if a thief wants to steal your stuff, there's no way of stopping him. It's sad but true.

mine has a "keycard" and the deck won't work w/o it. it's the size of a credit card and i used to put in my wallet, but now i just put it someplace secre in my car.

the only thing is, if a thief happens to get in, i hope he's smart enough to know that the hu won't work without the card... :(

:( Never doubt the mind of a thief, even if you take the face off, they sometimes will steal the sterio without the face, i dont know why they still do that for ... But its happened to a couple of my friends before :laugh:

if you leave it in the car, better have an alarm and/or a locking glove box, or a better place to hide it.

Sure thiefs are just as dumb as the rest of us, so they'll steal anything...

I think that leaving it behind at a restaurant or wherever is more likely that having it stolen, given the law of averages. And if you do happen to leave it behind, 9 times outta 10, consider it stolen...:mad:

They can get the faceplate from somewhere else....it will work. They could get it from the many that are out at circuit city or best buy. My friend got so pissed about his deck fucking up (display was showing weird characters) and circuit city would do nothing (was only two months old) eventhough the installer told her to replace it, so he ripped the faceplate of another deck on their display and walked out. To our amazement it worked perfectly. The deck had been sent in to service twice since he bought it and they said nothing was wrong. I HATE CIRCUIT CITY!!!!

Haha, now it makes sense... I heard this guy had his faceplate and CDs stolen (but not the head unit!!!). I guess they can steal the faceplate from somewhere else. :)

And you know about the latest head units that have "disappearing" face right? now what the hell is that supposed to do? Yeah, it seems that the faceplate is not there, but don't you think thieves know that it's actually there? I'm sure they do their research before ripping other people's head unit off. I mean if there's a choice, I'm sure they'd pick a Sony/Kenwood unit rather than a Jensen (no offense to Jensen users, just an example :D). At least it's worth more when they sell it for a quick buck.
