Amp problem
This weekend I installed a used Kicker IX254 4 channel amp. I quadruple checked all my wiring, so I'm positive its correct, but there's no sound. The amp does power up correctly. I even tried to plug RCA's from a walkman into the inputs and still I got no output. At this point, I'm pretty sure there's something wrong with the amp. Can they be repaired?

step 1. Kick the crap outta the ass who sold a dead amp
step 2. Crack it open and make sure all of the connections are still being made. Its possible that the RCA jacks have become disconnected from the main board. If nessacary you may need to solder it back together. step 3. check another amp off your head unit, make sure its sending a signal to the amp. step 4. take it to a kicker authorized repair shop |
BEFORE you do any of the above....make sure that the GAIN is turned up for all four channels....if for some reason the gain was turned all the way down on all four channels.....you would get nothing...and all you will have to do is crank it up.

Yeah, I already tried the gains. Hell, I tried every switch and knob on the thing to no avail. I did open it up just to look & see if there was anything obvious like fire damage, but I didn't check the wire connections. I'll have a look at that tonite.

well if the gain was turned up properly...and you are ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE that everything is wired correctly.....I think you just most likely have a dead amp......

Well, I cracked 'er open and here's what I found
Damage pic Anybody have any experience fixing these things? |
I agree, its very difficult to tell anything from that picture, is there a way you can zoom in and/or take multiple shots from different angles?
|
I'll try for a better pic tonite- but my camera doesn't like to focus on things much closer than that.

What do you have hooked up to your amp. does your radio have a subwoofer specific pre-out?
