Which Alarm?

I'm gettin my MP5 on monday and i was wondering what kind of alarm you guys recommend or have. I live in Southern California and i go to school in Riverside so i probably wanna get something pretty decent, but not something that's absurd. If you can, please teach my anything you know about car alarms! Thanks!

Having that window feature would be sweet, but it's not necessary. I don't really need fancy stuff like remote start and stuff, i just wanted something that would do a good job of keeping people from jacking my car or breakin in or just messing with it. I was looking for something like $300-$350 installed.

I have a Viper 600 ESP and it fits all of what you are looking for in an alarm. You can add window modules to it if you want (they roll the windows up or down). One of the things I like about the Viper alarms are that you can program the features yourself with the valet button whnever you want. I had mine put in my P5 for $300 installed.

sweet dude, thanks!

Viper, or any DEI product is rock solid. If you need a professional installer, i'd happy to help out, i'm in Huntington Beach.

just an FYI: The 600ESP is no different than the 500ESP, except that it has built in doorlock relays, which just makes it a little easier to install and the P5 is recommened to use relays with anyway. They both come with 4 button remotes. But if you don't need a 4 button (but could always upgrade to one later) you can go for the Viper 300ESP, and it's no different than the above except for 2 things, on board shock, as opposed to off board remote mounting, and it comes with 2btn remotes, as the others come with 4 btn remotes. no on board doorlock relays. Infact, you can even go for the Hornet line, it's the same quality, but a little less cash.

Do you happen to have a factory Keyless Entry? If so, i have the perfect alarm for you, it uses the same remotes you have now. It's the Automate 415A, also made by DEI. It simply upgrades your current keyless to a full alarm with all the same fearures the regular alarms have, and it's also expandable. It's a really sweet system.

Wow, that would be tite if you could install it for me, mazdaspeedwest. I'm thinking of getting the Clifford Arrow 3, but i don't know how much it would cost. I gotta call some dealers tomorrow and ask em how mcuh they want for it.

I have an Avantguard 3 installed in my car. It does everything under the sun. Remote start, all 4 windows, 4 sensors this alarm is loaded. Any alarm is fine it is all in the installer you choose. I installed mine and it took 3 days, but you can't find any of the wires for the alarm. A good installer will solder and shrink tape instead of crimping. A good installer will use gromets and silicone to prepare holes for leaks. A good install should leave very little proof that he/she was there. You can buy a 30 dollar alarm and have it installed by a good installer and never touch it again. Maybe a 600 dollar installed by a bad installer and wish that the alarm was never put in. I hope that helps, didn't mean to get on the soap box. I have been an installer for 15 years and have seen some very bad installs.

I was calling some places about the Clifford Arrow 3 cuz it seems like a pretty good alarm, and i've heard crazy things about Clifford. Best price so far is Good Guys installed for $250, but if i remember correctly, Good Guys overcharges for everything.

i am going to get an alarm for christmas. i don't want anyone touching my P5. I want one with all of the bells and whistles. i was reading about the quality of installer...i live in sacramento, CA. how does one go about finding a good alarm installer? i was reading also about the avital alarm system. are they any good? i know nothing about this so any help would be appreciated. i don't need remote start but everything else would be nice!

your best bet to find a good installer is to search all the Audio/Alarm forums and ask questions, find guys in your area who have had systems installed, heck you might find the installer on the board too.

If your in Socal, i'm happy to offer my installation services.

BTW, the ONLY real alarm system is the Clifford Avantguard G4 , but you may need to take out a loan to get it :) I know i recommened Viper whenever i can, and still do, but the ultimate alarm is the G4.

Ebay is a good place to look for alarms.
