6.5's installation help

Where can I get some adapters for replacing the rear speakers. The holes are off and I dont want to drill.

P5 DO OR DIE Aug 18, 2002 06:56 PM

sorry no such luck. You gotta drill your own holes. damn mazda.

DOn't drill just shoot the screws though the metal and if you want to avoid rust put silicone on the back of the screws.

Well Im using the black modling that was on the stock speakers. Had to cut a little but it works. Now my problem seems to be the oem grill kinda has this ring on the inside that is pressing on my speaker. not too good. I want to cut it off but I dunno if I should.

You have to cut that ring off, don't worry its usless. Basicly I just took a good razor and cut the back of the door panel flush eliminating that ring.

If you holes don't line up and you don't want to drill just use the stock speaker and make a 1/2" adapter from 1/2 MDF then mark the holes with the stock speaker and drill a recessed hole so that the screws sit flush witht the MDF adapter. Then just screw your speakers into the MDF adapter any way you like.

If you use 1/2" MDF, then you'll definitely need to remove those rings from the door panel. But like 1st MP3 said, they serve no purpose, so it's no big deal.

I think these might be easier, but i'm not sure if it really works...

thows are a wast of time and money. If you have acess to a jigssaw and 1/2" MDF you can do it yourself. those also aren't spacers so you'll still have to drill into the door.

Hahaha, that's a problem. Not everyone (including me) has access to a jigsaw :D

bzzzzzt!!! wrong!!! you can get the adapters at Pep Boys by the car audio or a car audio specialty shop...they are black plastic plates...specifically say on them
6 x 9 to 6 1/2 adapter plates....they are like $8.99 or something like that :D

That might work if you diregard the fact that he has a P5 which has 6 1/2 rear cut outs not 6x9s, plus a ring won't work for the 6 1/2s since its recessed holes will not line up with the stock holes.

Cool Thanks. pr5owner I just did the same thing as far as using the old speaker parts. I will be cutting that ring out this weekend.
