6 1/2s in rear doors

Yes it can be done.:D I've cut out a hole in the sheet metal and put in a pair of Infinity 652i 6.5s that sound good....untill I put the door panel back on. I've cut the plastic on the back of the panel so that it's not touching the speaker at all. I then took a trip to the junk yard to buy speaker grills out of the front doors but they would only sell me the whole panel and I didn't want to pay a hundred bucks a pop for something that I only needed the grill of. I've been thinking of going back up there to see how much a rear shelf would cost and just using the 6x9 grills in the doors. I want it to look stock so I've been trying to avoid that and I don't want to use the given grills for the same reason. Any body have any alternatives or grills they are looking to sell?

The stereo shop that I worked at had both extra name brand factory grills and other factory grills with no name on them. I would try them first. My old Eclipse didn't have door speakers and when I took the 5 1/4 mids out of the door, I purchased some cheap $10 speakers which were equivilant to factory spkrs. I went to a different stereo shop and they gave me some grills that went to Memphis Audio speakers. I am sure the next person who bought the care was like, "Memphis Audio, cool!" When in fact they were cheap ass whizzer tweeter cone speakers with a MA grill on it. Hee Hee. I didn't rip any one off. The car was traded in to a dealership. I could care less about them. They screw so many people that a screw you back is what they deserve. Funny thing is, it was traded in one area and I passed it coming home at a wholesale dealer. It was definitely my old car because it had CodeAlarm stickers on the side doors. I had fond memories of the car, as slow as it was. I felt a little sad when I found out it was my old car.

Me or Mazda Mania? If you are talking about my old are, I don't have any pics of it. My present car, I have 6 1/2 SoundStream reference midbass behind the factory grills. It fit just fine with no depth problems. I just had to use a Dremel tool and shave a little metal and place the speakers in acoustic baffles upon mounting to prevent moisture from reaching the inside. I have a home page, just click below. No pics on midbass in doors. I didn't have access to a digital camera at the time.

Also these are the front doors, not rear doors of my sedan. I have the factory 6x9's in back, but they are unhooked. So no rear fill.

Something I found a wonderful help with door rattles is the polyfil batting people put in sub boxes...of coarse I've got it in my boxes too. If you have door rattles roll the windows down, take off the door panels, take out your speakers and fill the heck out of the bottom of the door keeping mind of where the window track is. Keep amount of polyfil around the speaker to a minimum but don't be afraid of it. Was very much worth the 8 bucks I spent at wal-mart for the huge 5 pound box.

More specifics will come but this is a general layout of what I've got. Sounds wonderful....thinking about putting tweeters in the dash and maybe something small(3.5s, 4s, or 4x6s) in the seat belt pillar but I haven't put much thought into those so I'm not sure if they'll work or not. I'm only going to take on one project at a time.
