5-1/4 or 6-1/2 speakers

hi everyone, i want to change the front speakers in my protege and need advice as to which size. First off i want componenet speakers and i like infinity's so I'm looking at the 5-1/4 or 6-1/2 size range. i would get the 5X7's but apparently i can't get them in canada. I did buy the 6-1/2 a few weeks ago but returned them after trying it out in the hole in the door and realizing i might have to cut metal to install them. So my options are to get 5-1/4 and buy the adapter so they fit in the 5X7 hole or buy the 6-1/2 's again and make them fit with cutting/adapters. Can anyone give me opinions on the sound coming from the 5-1/4's vs. 6-1/2.
thanks for any input

6.5's otherwise you're gonna forever regret that extra 1-1/4 you're missing... You shoudl be able to make them fit by simply using a piece of 1/2" wood, cutting it out to an ovalish shape similar to that of your old speakers, and then cutting a hole in that to mount your 6's to. 5's are alright, but just alck the midbass punch that keep your music strong all around. Are you amping them at all? Ifnot I HIGHLY recommend it.

Nowthen, thatsaid. Have you listened to many other speakers? Since you're going 6.5" components, listen to as many as you possibly can. There's HUGE differences in them, and somtiems you can find better for less. All up to your ears. However if you're talking about refrences, for the money I think they're a pretty strong speaker. Look into JL's as well, though.
