3M Clear Bra
 

I am looking for protection for my pro5. I live in Colorado were they use gravel/sand instead of salt for our winter roads. As you can imagine this does mass amounts of damage to windshields/bumpers/hoods.

I'm not too keen on the Mazda bra that the dealers sell, and the magnetic bra that Mitch at protege5online sells is very sweet, but overall is not very effective in preventing the 'ding' damage you get here.

So in a quest looking for options, I ran across the 3M Clear Bra solution. A company here in the Springs can do the install (I don't know the price right now...will find out after the Holidays.)

Has anyone seen or used this? Pros/Cons? Any instight would be appreciated.

A little more research revealed some common pricing, so I would expect most of these kits to be about the same...anywhere from $300.00 to $600.00.

The actual name of the film is 3M Scotchcal. It is a multilayer urethane film (or as most of the nifty sales pitch term it - thermoplastic urethane) that is bonded (much like window tint) to the surface of the auto. All the sites say that it prevents 'paint chipping', which is fine and dandy, but I would imagine that the film itself would get nicks and start to look just as nasty as chips in the paint. However, consumers can be assured that 3M Scotchcal "will not crack, yellow, shrink or peel over time and is used by major automobile manufacturers including Audi, BMW, Porsche, Mitsubishi, and Toyota." ClearBra is AMAZING! :)

It does look nice, but for that price I think I am better off getting the Mazda bra for $90.00 and using it in the Winter out here to protect my frontend.

If anyone can attest to this products effectiveness I would like to hear about it.
