2002 DX to ES gauge conversion possible???

Is this possible to do in the 2002 models....I have no tach and I want one!!!!!! Does anyone know how much this would cost Parts/labor. I would have the dealship do it for me, not something I would wanna deal with. I figure I can pick up a gauge at the dealership. I just don't know if it will work the way I want. Will the tach work properly???

I read the FAQ and it was for the 2001. I figured it included all 3rd gen. but I just wanted to be sure before I went out and did it. Also, would i have to re-set the mileage??? I had the gauges replace on my 99 cougar (digital also) and when I got it back it read 4,000 less miles on it. ( I didn't complain)

I just looked on E-bay and found the gauge...I know this is going to be another dumb question but, does this look right???

You could try to get a set of ES/LX gauges from a wrecked Protege from a salvage yard.

Is the mileage recorded in the speedometer or in the ECU for the engine? I've replaced a gauge set and when the new set was hooked up, the mileage was correct. The trip info was all reset to zero, but the mileage stayed the same.

From my understanding, it's supposed to be logged on a chip inside the gauge cluster. It maybe logged in the ECU however. :dunno:
It is encoded into the ECU. Otherwise people could replace gauge clusters and sell cars with less mileage then they actually have, extremely easily. Duhhh :D

. . . . but changing the ECU out is even easier than changing the gauge cluster . . .
