cleaning the interior
I was told by some people not to use cleaning products such as Armor All for cleaning the interiror.. apparently it dries the dash then starts cracking...
Is that true? What stuff do you guys use to clean the inside?? |
I've never heard of anything like that. Armor all and such products are designed to protect your vinyl. I use Simoniz vinyl cleaner and although it smells rather spicy, I've never had trouble with the dash cracking or fading in any of my cars.
The only reason your dash would dry is if you constantly park in sunny areas and let your interior bake. |
Cheap silicone-based products like Armor All are mostly designed for short-term gain only. They do not usually contain UV protectants, so what happens is that the silicone oils act as a magnifying glass, intensifying UV degradation of your dash. In addition, silicone oils may dissolve some of the oils in the vinyl, speeding up the process in which cracks can occur. Best to use a quality vinyl cleaner/dressing that contains a UV protectant, such as Lexol Vinylex or Meguiars #40.

At one time, I used an interior cleaning product to clean my dash, and crap, it took off the colour, I guessed it worked too good. Since then, I just used a damp cloth and wipe as I pleased. It is the best, don't waste your money on products 'n' craps like that. It's better to spend your money on tire shines 'n' stuffs. Well, that's my take on interior-dash cleaning.

no no no
it is worth the money. when you use just a damp cloth it removes dust, but doesn't add anything. if you use a good vinyl product, it enhances the look and adds a sort of gloss finish... i use mothers. it smells awesome, and doesn't fade away after 10 min like armour-all crap. i use it on the inside, and the outside of my car. makes a big difference. |
Personally, I try to stay away from shiny interior, it looks cheesy to me. Plus, it doesn't glare to the eyes, especially at night, I try to keep it dark and cozy when I am driving.
Example: shiny finish floor tiles = cheesy natural finish floor tiles = elegant |
we have different tastes
my deck lights up my car at night and i like the shine though it hasn't blinded me yet... ;) |
yes, i agree ppl have diff. tastes, i guess that's what makes the world go round, ahe. i am not putting any1 down, i am just xpressin meself. :)
|
I use a swiffer cloth when its just dust and a damps cloth when its dirty. Stay away from all these products, they cost money and damage your car.

Rash Girl,
Where do you buy Mother's? Is it mainly an interior cleaning product? Please let me know.. Thanks! PJStyles |
Back in the olden days dashes were made out of crappy material and those products used to distroy them. Dashes today are made of tougher plastics so they with stand the harsh beating of the sun. These products now offer a lifetime replacement of the dash if it cracks.

I use the armourall cleaner wipes. They work great, plus i have the interior california duster sweeettttt..... works just as good as its big brother does on the outside.
Great investments IMHO  |
I love the shiny polished look though... Do these Armor All wipes last and do they look shiny?
