Suspension Lubricating
 

I regularly perform the scheduled maintenance on my car and was wondering what exactly I must lubricate on it? I know the technicians lubricate "major suspension components". What might these be? What type of grease/oil do I use? Any other lubing to do on the chassis besides locks/hinges? Thanks guys!

Bump...c'mon guys none of you know what I'm talking about?

I doubt there's anything to lubricate. Most new cars have sealed balljoints and tie rods, no grease fittings.

I was wondering the same thing. I always hear "oil and chassis lube"

Recently when I take bumps something (I figured my suspension) starting creaking/squeaking. Just sounds like something needs to be greased up, but I don't know what it is specifically. It won't make any noise if I just push down on the corners, I have to be driving. :confused:

For the most part it is a scam...I am not sure about Protege's, but most modern suspensions utilize sealed bearings and bushings that will last longer than the chassis itself. As part of a "tune-up" or scheduled maintance they claim to lubricate these phantom parts just to justify their ridiculous fee. Some good dealerships will lube the door hinges and coat the exhuast hangers to prevent them from rotting, but as far as the suspension bushings I don't thing they do much more than squirt a shot of WD-40 at the joints if anything...Older cars also needed wheel bearings "repacked" with grease, and some dealerships still claim to do this on modern cars that no longer need it...

If you want take your car to Jiffy Lube and ask them.

Any ideas what my squeaking suspension part might be? It comes from all four corners, sounds like the wheel well area. When I hit a bump, it just makes a fairly loud creak/squeak. :dunno:

Have you hit something lately? A curb? Maybe done some off-roading? Asking cause I had the same sound problem after hitting my rock. It went away after I replaced my bent suspension parts.

From all four corners? You got me. I have no idea. I'd start looking other places than the suspension, though, if it's coming from everywhere and it doesn't do it when you push down on the car. Wiggle the exhaust around; maybe one of the hangers is creaking?

Haven't hit anything to the best of my knowledge. No one else drives my car, and if it was something this big I don't think I could have missed it ;)

Yeah it might be part of the exhaust. I intend to play around with that today and see what else it might be. Thanks for the suggestions guys.
