Rotor Rust on Inside Pad Area

Hey all-
Has anyone else encountered rust on the inside pad area of the rotors? It is as if the top half of the inside pads didn't touch the rotor and rust built up...

I have changed the pads (good/worn) and plan to turn the rotors - but will it come back? The calipers slide okay and the pads look normal except for the rusted area on the rotor that tells me they ere not contacting...

The car stops well and doesn't pull...

-puzzled. :cookoo:

yeah, all of the rust is getting pushed up and out and causing that rust ring. The rotors I sell are zinc plated so they dont rust (excpet the friction surface) but the outside edges will stay rust free as will the hubs.

You can turn the rotors and knock the rust off but it will just come back as the metal is now exposed again....it's like a cut/scab relationship.

If you are concerned about uneven pad contact, don't worry - as the pads wear, they will mold themselves to the surface of the rotor. You won't have incomplete pad contact for very long.

So iremoved the rotors Friday. One had a huge 'hole' or void in it and several smaller ones. All at the rust 'ring' or part of the swept area of the pad. It hasn't gotten better - only worse.

With much regret because the oppty was short - i bought the el cheapo AutoZone rotors instead of the Super Matty P[tm] rotors... :(

They had the 'swirl' cut on the face of them and after quite a bit of driving still make a light 'grinding sound' as i come to a complete stop.

I sanded the pads flush.

as long as your car stops well I'm not sweating it!!

Grinding noise went away. Now i have to rustoleum the NEW rotors at the hub.
sigh.
