Rear Camber on '02 P5
 

Hey guys, I've been to two different mechanics and they both tell me I need a rear camber kit installed on my '02 P5 to correct the rear camber and the "Dog-tracking" that is happening. The car is pretty much stock except I have 17's wrapped with 215 40s
Mazda doesn't make the kits and denies that the car should ever need one... typical.

First question, where can I buy the kit at?
Second Question, how hard would it be to install?

I'm looking to do a complete suspension/brake upgrade in about two weeks, and I would like to have ALL parts that I might need in the process. I realize with my tire size I might have to adjust the camber inward a few degrees on the front and back, but should it be that big of an issue?

Any advice/help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You can get camber bolts (eccentric bolts) for the holes where the strut mounts to the hub. Or smaller (grade 8) bolts to give you some slop. But it will be trial and error since toe adjustment will alter camber slightly and you probably wont be able to get to 'em with the wheel on. I wish Tony (AWR) would make lateral links (for both sides of subframe) with threaded adjustment in the middle (a la 1st generation Protege/Escort's rearmost lateral link) then toe and camber would be fully adjustable for 3rd gen.

you can get "crash bolts" or "camber bolts" at any auto parts store, I used them to dial in my autocross alignment. If you havent lowered or moded your suspension at all, you shouldn'e need camber correction, have you tried getting the car aligned?

Sounds like you've been to some inept mechanics. Dog-tracking is purely a result of toe. it has nothing to do with camber.

Chrisf is right. With the toe being fully adjustable at all 4 corners, they should be able to eliminate any crabbing. Unless they are trying too hard to correct the camber problem at the expense of bad toe settings??? Too bad we couldn't use the same eccentric bolts on the forward lateral link in the rear suspension (where it attaches to the subframe) that the rear link has. Then we could have any camber/toe we wanted. <sigh>
